Hi Graham. Good practical review as always. And needed too as there seems to be little interest by other established reviewers thus far. Certainly some progress over the first model, but there is clearly some development still needed. More importantly, I'm still not convinced that the whole concept has legs. A straightforward, and much cheaper, grip for a smartphone is the way to go, especially if features such as a viewfinder, access to controls, tripod socket and suitable lens add-ons are available. The only aspects I dislike about mobile phone photography is using a screen as a viewfinder & accessibility to controls. You'll know what I mean with the P20 Pro in Pro mode! All the best to you & yours as always, Richard P.S. I've enjoyed my time with the P20 Pro but my old Google Nexus delivered better shots. So, it's back to Google next time although choosing which one may be a task!
A friend gave me his, as by the time it came he had upgraded his phone and this model no longer fit. I like it as an iPhone grip, and like the tripod thread (I would have this on a tripod for video anyway, most of the time) but the Pictar app is not worth the trouble. As this reviewer say, it is quite buggy. The top, side and right menu bars never go away, and they are so dark that they obscure the screenview, so that the entire aspect ratio is difficult to see. Bad. The wheels and buttons of the unit only work with their app (infrared connection?) and their function is not user definable. It would have been better if universal functionality (working with "Camera" app, even) could have been used. The Pictar app is so far behind something like Filmic Pro, it's really not worth bothering with. Which makes this gadget just a very nice iPhone clamp / handgrip.
When I started watching this I was thinking it looked great , but due to your wonderfully honest review I shall be saving myself some money. Thank you for your honesty as always Graham.
Excellent evaluation, Graham. I, too, bought this thinking what a cool item it was. However, it does not fit into my pocket. My iPhone fits my left pocket and my little Sony travel zoom fits in my right pocket. I'm going to stick with those two and sell this Pictar.

I will wait for a few more upgrades to the Pictar Pro.

Good review. But it would be less hassle just to use a DSL as this basically turns an iPhone into something that is nearly as bulky
don't think it's ready to buy yet at any price witch you never mentioned ??
Why would anyone want this?
