So this is sort of the middle phone of the just announced samsung galaxy, a series and it’s an interesting device in a whole bunch of ways and actually the new galaxy. A series are kind of interesting because, while samsung’s had galaxy a mid range phones for years now, they’ve generally been solid but not terribly remarkable, not terribly leading phones. Here samsung seems to be saying nope. We want a bigger slices marker. We want to take on the likes of your oppo’s and your real me’s, and you always and your knockers and everyone else and of course, they’ve probably got the brand to do it, especially here in australia, where, essentially speaking in terms of phone sales, you have apple. You have samsung and then you’ve got everyone else. So a couple of caveats. This was based on a really really short hands on period and there’s. All sorts of things that i can’t test. I couldn’t test the processor for app performance. I couldn’t test the battery for battery life couldn’t test the water resistance. I could basically get a feel for how this and the other a series phones worked and a little bit of photo camera time. So what do i like about this particular device? So one of the things that i particularly like about this particular a series phone is it’s got the best screen of any of the new a series phones. Now the a72 has a bigger screen, it’s true, but the a72 and the non 5g version of the a52 and believe me.
It gets more confusing than that. Have 90 hertz capable screen that’s. Quite nice that’s quite decent nice little kick up from your usual 60 hertz, but the a52 5g gets a 120 hertz capable display that’s, even better and not super common samsung are not the first in the mid range to do 120 hertz, but not super common. In this space and having a nice screen in this size, i think is also really important. This is a phone that feels pretty good in the hand. I do think that’s important. The a72 is a bigger phone. Yes, and if you like that great more power to you, but it is big big, like you’re, really going to struggle to do single handed things with that handset, not so much with the a52, then there’s, the colors. Now previous, a series, friends generally been blacks. Couple of them have been white, but mostly black black or black, and yes, you can get a blackout according to samsung it’s amazing black, but you can also get a blue phone. You can also get a violet phone. There should be a white phone samsung. Didn’T. Show me one don’t know if they’re going on sale here in australia, but you get your choice of colors and look i’ll, admit: i’m, a sucker for a blue phone. I quite like that light blue tone. I think it works pretty well, the one catch here is, this is a plastic glossy phone and, as such, it picks up.
Fingerprints, like crazy samsung, would clean these phones before i came into the room, but it really really did not take all that long for them to look a little bit. Gunky that happens across the board, with most plastic phones, that’s not unique to samsung. So, on the camera side of things there’s an interesting kind of mix here, actually so primary 64 megapixel lens, then you’ve got a 12 megapixel up ultra wide and a 5 megapixel macro to shoot with there’s. Also, a 5 megapixel depth sensor that’s, not a bad little recipe. I tend to like phones with zoom rather than ultrawide, but tastes can vary. You can certainly take quite a few interesting shots with this, where it was did not lend itself to taking a lot of photos for a long period of time, but it did okay, if you do want that optical zoom, by the way the a72 has it like. I said the mix and variation of specs is kind of confusing across this whole range. I also just want to do a special call out to the fact that it has a headphone jack. I find it kind of weird, though, because samsung’s premium phones, no headphone jack. No, you don’t, you don’t get one of those you don’t want one of those samsung’s mid range phones here have a headphone jack. You might find that useful, someday, weird right, so where’s the challenge. Well, the issue really is that this is a space that, while samsung’s been here for a long time, there’s a lot of really good competition.
You’Ve got really really good phones from the likes of oppo and real me and huawei, and nokia and lg, and that makes it a big challenging proposition to come in with not quite a new phone, but certainly a nicely refined phone now at the time i’m. Recording this i don’t actually know what the exact price for the a525g will be in australia, i’m, expecting it to be around 700, but by the time i upload this. I expect that samsung will have told me so i’ll throw those prices up on screen. So you know i’m waiting to get one of these in for review and that’s when i’ll be able to really put it through its paces. What do you think? Are you keen, on the galaxy, a series phones to 2021?
