This phone lands in that rare category, where i started to appreciate it more as time went on so as a quick, disclaimer i’ve seen this come up in a couple of videos. I have two lines of service, one for personal and one for business. The s21 ultra has been my personal sim card since it came out. Also samsung sent this phone on loaner for review, so they don’t influence anything i’m saying in this video as they’re seeing this video at the same time as you guys today, coming in at twelve hundred dollars, the s21 ultra is samsung’s flagship phone. The s21 series also had a regular s21 and also the s21 plus. We do know that samsung gives you heavily discounted prices if you’re trading in another phone, which can knock this phone down to nearly half the price. I mean if you can get this phone for 600. This is the best six hundred dollars phone ever, but for twelve hundred dollars is it worth it let’s talk about it cell phones. These days do way more than we need them to do for the most part. So asking someone to pay twelve hundred dollars is a big ask with more premium phones. The big difference is the camera and we’ll talk about that later. In the video in the hand, the s21 ultra is a big phone. Also, the camera bump on the back is noticeable, but the way it’s designed it’s far less top heavy than what we’ve seen before and it’s comfortable.
My bias leans towards smaller phones, but for a big phone. This feels great compared to its rival the iphone 12 pro max. This phone is much more comfortable and easier to hold in one hand, i did a video comparing these two already. So if you want to check those out click up here, unless i forget to put it up here, then click the link down below in the description. So this phone is made from glass it’s like a glass sandwich with metal in the middle. So the front is glass and the back is glass and the back glass is like a frosted glass, so it doesn’t get a ton of fingerprints, but it still is prone to get scratches. I don’t know if prone is the right word, but mine actually has a. Is it a scuff or as a scratch i really can’t tell i can’t feel it under my finger, but it’s the scuff that won’t go away. Obviously, this could be remedied if you get a dbrand skin, it does look dope and it also protects the back of the phone. You can switch up the way it looks and the design and all that cool stuff hit the links down below to drain your device. But if you’re not rocking a dbrand skin or a case that’s, something to be mindful of that, it could get a scratch now let’s talk about getting into the phone. The way i get into my phone is by using the in screen fingerprint sensor.
It’S super accurate and very fast to respond in this day and age we’re. You know wearing masks and you know that’s been a thing for over a year now, so i am very thankful to have this. I also do keep facial recognition on too so, if i’m at home – and i don’t wear a mask my phone unlocks by me just looking at it. The fingerprint also works when the screen is off, but i can never put my finger in just the right spot. So i always wake my phone up first and then find where it wants me to put my finger, and i use that. Instead, there are so many ways to get into this phone and you’ll find the perfect option for you, whether it’s, a swipe or it’s. A pen or anything like that now that we’re into the phone, the first thing we see is this huge screen and, let me say this screen looks really good. I don’t need to say much talking about the technology behind it because it’s just a good looking screen. Now for people who do care, it is amoled, meaning the blacks are true. Black and the colors are accurate, but it also can be vivid too. Now. What i mean by that is that samsung lets you customize the colors on the screen to make them fit your liking. So for me, i, like it natural tone which isn’t super vivid, but a lot of people can switch over to vivid where you get those really bright colors and this screen can accommodate anything.
You want to do if you’re watching videos, gaming or even reading a book. This screen will not disappoint and, if you’re worried about blue light, there is an eye comfort shield technology built in similar to apple’s, true tone, but this has customizations built into it. You can set up schedules and all that stuff too and it’s worth checking out. You also have a variable high, refresh screen rate up to 120 hertz at quad hd resolution. However, i do keep it at 1080p. A high refresh rate makes everything smoother it’s hard to show. But if you look at this slow motion, video look at the reaction time when my finger scrolls on the screen – and you know, flick and swipe. Look how much faster it’s reacting there’s a big difference when using it in person, although it can look a little minimal on camera now when discussing performance, not much to say but it’s fast, it’s, rocking snapdragon’s latest chip, the 888, so you know, expect excellent performance for A while now, even the s10, which is two years old, now still runs great, so scrolling between apps window and window mode loading, intense applications. All those things are really great on this phone and you will not be disappointed, especially if you’re a power user. If you like to game on phones, then playing a game like call of duty with an xbox controller, you can hit some really high frames per second and low response time.
Samsung has made an emphasis on gaming lately and it’s, showing these games are running really good. Now software is a big one for samsung. A lot of people have strong opinions on this topic, especially when it comes to samsung. Now, one ui is samsung’s skin on top of android and it’s. Actually one of my favorite skins when it comes to android, so yeah settings are confusing and you know somewhat overwhelming with so many choices and it seems cluttered at times, but for people who know what they want out of a phone and for people who know what They’Re looking for having more settings is a good thing. I just wish there was a simple mode in advance mode to hide some of the settings. As i know, a lot of people can get confused within the settings. Another thing that is confusing are the redundant apps. Look samsung wants you to use their apps and for good reason, they’re. Really nice apps, but android has a set of stock apps too baked into android, and it gets very confusing when you have a play: store: galaxy store, samsung pay, google pay, internet, chrome, mail, gmail and i’m sure there are more examples of this. Also samsung’s track record on updating their phone software consistently isn’t the best it’s better than it was but that’s an android issue, not samsung’s only but samsung might be one of the worst culprits new to the s21 ultra is the ability to use the s.
Pin s pen, which is a staple for the note line now, can be used on the s21 ultra. You can use an odor s pen if you want, or you can get a new one from samsung that is made specifically for this phone. This phone doesn’t house, the s pen, but samsung, also makes cases to hold it with the phone it doesn’t support. The bluetooth functions like the s pen, so air gestures do not work, but simple s. Pen features works great. If you want to know more about the s pen features i’ll link a video down below to go over that with you as i’m, not a big s. Pen guy, i don’t think i’m, the best person to talk about the s pen, but i think, with the bigger picture, is that the note series may be gone replaced by the fold. Lineup don’t quote me on that, but that is just my opinion. Music. I think it’s time to talk about the camera or, i guess, cameras and that’s. What makes the s21 ultra. I guess ultra there’s a lot to talk about when it comes to lenses and features and modes, and i could easily spend a half hour discussing that, which i don’t think you want me to do up front. There is a 40 megapixel sensor that is capable of shooting 40 megapixel images and up to 4k video. I think this front facing camera is extremely sharp and the image is detailed with great dynamic range.
I’Ve been really impressed with the images that comes out of it. You know portrait mode 2 is fantastic it’s, a huge upgrade compared to what we’ve seen previously. I find that detection and separation from the background is really good too, and you get some decently natural looking shots. Now i talk about this all the time and you’re tired of hearing me talk about it, but the skin tuning and enlightened skin, and things like that now you can turn that off, but it still does it a little bit beyond that i’m very happy with the Image, i do notice that it’s a little bit slower to capture when you’re doing a selfie with portrait. So if i’m trying to do one of a front facing portrait with my son, it ends up being a little blurry, since he may not be still the whole time. This isn’t a huge problem, since many people could stand still for a couple of seconds, but getting selfies with kids are still a little challenging. The rear camera system has four cameras, leading with the 108 megapixel sensor when you’re using the camera. It may ask you to switch over to the 108 megapixel sensor when taking some pictures. However, don’t do that that sensor, disables hdr, you end up with a shot that you may not like. Most shots will be taken with this lens, so the default setting has hdr on just don’t switch over to that other setting, because you won’t be happy with it.
Hdr on this camera is great. Taking pictures of outside objects is the best on mobile. They may not look 100 realistic. However, i do enjoy what comes out of the camera. With extra lenses, you can go ultra wide, giving you a nice shot of a whole landscape or you can do a 10x or 30x zoom without losing any quality at all, which is really nice. The zoom lenses works great for larger objects, but they’re not great for zooming into closer objects. If that makes sense, we also do have 100x space zoom it’s gotten better, since we last saw it a year ago, and i think if the object is big enough and it’s far enough with enough light, you can grab a decent looking shot. I see a lot of people taking pictures of the moon, which is neat, but i have not found a real reason to have it outside of just a couple party tricks: i’m, not mad – that i do have it it’s a cool trick. But for me it’s just nothing. I see myself using video recording is very good on this phone. It has built in 8k recording, which is something i can’t comment on too much since i don’t have an 8k tv or i don’t have an ak monitor. It looks fine it’s, only 24 frames per second takes a lot of space. The phone gets hot it’s, okay, but most people are not going to be using that feature.
What i like to use is the 4k mode when shooting 4k or even 1080p. You have many options for different frame rates and no matter what you’re looking to shoot you’ll be impressed as long as you have some okay lighting. Also stabilization is very solid, allowing you to shoot handheld shots when you’re out and about without much shake or jitter. You can also change the microphone in the settings on the software to a bluetooth headset in manual mode. So if you have galaxy buds in your ear or if you have like a bluetooth mic, you can use that for audio now. Single take is my favorite camera mode. You can tap the shutter and you get 10 seconds to move the camera around. Do different poses different faces and it snaps photos and makes videos and do all these different things with all the lenses and just spits out a ton of stuff it’s. My favorite mode to use my son because once again like every two year old, they run around and do all these crazy things and spin around and all that stuff and one take mode, is able to grab a couple good shots at least and some fun little Videos, the night mode on the camera works very well too. Only thing that i don’t like about it is that you need to go into modes and activate it, but the camera does recommend you do it if you’re in a dark setting.
But when you do use it, you could turn pitch black into a decent looking shot. It does require subjects to be still from five to seven seconds and it’s still possible to do it handheld. I have no problems with it. Overall, the camera suite on this phone is fantastic, it’s, not perfect, and it still struggles in lower light situations, but it’s right up there with some of the best cameras now, and i think it is a pretty big upgrade from last year now coming down the home Stretch battery life gets me well over a day now going to bed with around 20 30 is really nice. Now a disclaimer is that i’m, not on 5g i’m, not going anywhere i’m on wi fi all day i haven’t tested it away from my house, haven’t tested it during travel, so that data could change. When that happens, the speakers on the phone is better than everything else. I compare this phone to four other major flagship phones, including its rival. The iphone. This speaker is the clearest speaker out of every single one it doesn’t get as loud as the iphone but it’s clear and it’s loud enough to fill a decent space, and i guess one more thing that i just want to mention. This phone does have built in ads, so if you go into the weather app, you may see some ads or even notification. Shade might have some ads. You can go into settings and turn that off, but by default it is on anyways guys.
This phone is a fantastic phone that builds the function, the design the execution is all top notch. Anything i mentioned as far as negative is just nitpicking on an overall amazing phone anyways guys that was my full review of the galaxy s21 archer.
