Now is probably the easiest time ever. I mean, in addition to needing you, know a computer and some editing software. The biggest thing you’re going to need is a camera, but thankfully today’s modern cell phones have pretty decent video capabilities with many, even shooting 4k at 60 frames per second, whether you’re using android or iphone. You can likely record high quality video with the tap of your screen at the very least. Most cell phones in the united states shoot 1080p video so without having to buy a single thing. As long as you already have a decent smartphone, you can shoot pretty decent video. The main issue you’re going to run into is audio quality and, of course, you know how do you set this up, so it records you uh, while you’re trying to do things that doesn’t fall over. You know without having to use a selfie stick. Well, this is the viewflex k2 multifunctional smartphone video kit. The folks over at uflex, asked me to review this little guy, and since i am a film teacher, i figured this might be the perfect product for people who are just you know, starting out in the filmmaking or want to get started on their very first youtube. Channel and once you know what my beautiful wife ashlynn, also known as the awesome, miss, has just started her own youtube channel, where she’s gon na be doing all kinds of fun stuff talking about her interests and hobbies, as well as doing reviews of products.
That would make absolutely no sense for me to talk about so if this thing works, she’s, probably gon na use it on her channel. She doesn’t have any video content posted just yet, but she will very very soon so, if you’re, all interested in that head on to her channel and click subscribe. Now before i unbox this thing, i want to give my standard disclaimer. This video is not sponsored. I have not been paid a single penny to make this video i’ve not been told what to say or what not to say um. I i paid my own money to buy this product and i’m allowed to say whatever i want. They asked for an honest review so that’s what i’m gon na give them if it’s good, i’ll, say it’s good, if it’s garbage i’ll, say it’s garbage so let’s get to the unboxing all right on the front. We have a photo of the product, as you can see it holds your phone uh has what looks like a short shotgun microphone and a tripod inside. We have ooh a nice velvety bag with the viewflex logo on it that’s pretty nice. You know because, like you can stick it in here, then you don’t worry about it like scratching other stuff that might be in your backpack with it so that’s pretty cool under here. We have the instructions. We’Ll take a look at those in a moment and underneath we have whoa.
This is way nicer than i was expecting. Okay, let’s start on the left. We have this windscreen for the microphone. This is what we in the industry call a dead cat, though, with an object of this size, you might want to pick a different animal anyway. This is uh supposed to stop wind from causing noise and distortion in your microphone, while you’re recording one thing that i noticed is that it’s kind of kind of solid kind of hard it’s not like a shell inside of it, so maybe there’s actually like another windscreen Inside this thing, which is really cool, this here is a standard wind muff. As you can see, it is in fact squishy. A lot of people will combine a dead cat windscreen with a foam wind muff like this and use both when the wind is really really bad, so that’s really cool below the windscreen. We have the mount. This is pretty standard cold shoe mount it’s made of plastic, which of course makes sense because it has to have some small amount of flex in order to allow the mic to easily snap in and out of place. Next to that we have the mini shotgun mic. This thing’s made of metal it has the viewflex logo there, 3.5 millimeter jack on the back. It feels really well built uh. Before we get to the mount itself. I want to look at this tripod. This is much larger than the tripod.
I was expecting this little. Guy is the kind of thing i was expecting. This actually came with my 360 camera and and as small and tiny as it’s, actually pretty decent i’ve seen some really bad tripods included with camera accessories. So the fact that they gave us this big, substantial tripod in this box is just amazing. Like i said this thing is way: nicer, it’s, a big boy. The legs are thick heavy duty, but lightweight plastic. The head is metal. This is the perfect size to fold up into like a makeshift selfie stick or like a pistol grip. It’S, really really great. The only thing that i don’t really like about it and it’s, not a big deal i’m. Just not super thrilled is that, in order to adjust the nut, you have to have some kind of a screwdriver to go in there, which isn’t like a deal breaker. But when you’re trying to use this kind of a kit on the go having a ring or some other means of tightening, this would be ideal. Okay, now the real meat of the matter, the mount itself wow. This thing is way higher quality than i was expecting. Uh, first of all, it’s 100 metal with some protective rubber in all the right places. The base plate on this thing looks like it’s, designed to fit into professional tripod mounts in fact, it kind of looks like it’s modeled after the manfrotto system, though i’m sure someone in the comments will tell me why i’m wrong.
Obviously, there are a million variants of tripod mounting systems out there, but the fact that they even thought to design it to fit any professional tripod is crazy. Now, obviously, it fully articulates from portrait mode to landscape mode, and it does so using this really nice red uh knob. On the back, i really can’t get over how nice the build quality on this is. This is really springy. This is what i’m used to seeing with camera kits these fully plastic kind of janky and noisy uh selfie. Stick adapters like this now look how easily this is with the view flex and, of course, the whole thing tilts up and down, and the only thing that i really have to complain about is once again it needs a screwdriver in order to make this kind of Janky annoying like this kind of adjustment would need to be made a lot, and i don’t always have tools with me when i’m out and about so. I again, i feel like this could have been handled a little bit better. Maybe include a screwdriver with the kit, or maybe just put one of those little ring things on here, so you can just twist it without having to have a tool. I just feel like it’s, a small oversight and it’s really the only thing i have to complain about so far. Lastly, inside the box is a 3.5 millimeter cable, more commonly known as an aux cord, and that brings me to part two of this review audio with a kit like this.
The most important selling point is the fact that it comes with a high quality microphone. In fact, microphones are maybe the most important tool you have when it comes to recording high quality audio uh. You also have to worry about the room that you’re in, but you don’t really have control over that most the time. So the microphone is really the most important thing and we need to test this in a couple of different ways. We need to test whether or not it sounds better than the built in microphones on today’s flagship smartphones. We also need to test if it sounds better on android or iphone, if there’s a difference at all and third, we need to test whether or not this will actually work with today’s flagship smartphones that no longer have a 3.5 millimeter jack let’s start with the control For this test, i’m going to be using my google pixel 5 and my wife’s iphone 11. now in order to do this test i’m going to need dongles for both my wife’s phone and my own, because both of these phones no longer have 3.5 millimeter jacks. So, thankfully i have those dongles here and ready to use uh if they do not work. If this microphone will not work with a dongle that’s a huge blow to this product, because more and more phones are moving away from that 3.5 millimeter jack and so not being able to use it with a current phone would really hurt the viability of this product.
Music, this is a video testing, my smartphone, without the vue flex, microphone just checking to see what the audio quality is, if it’s any better than the microphone itself. This is testing the viewflex microphone with my google pixel uh, just to see what the sound difference is. If any, and if this microphone even works with the dongle, this is a test of the built in microphone on my wife’s iphone 11., just checking how the overall audio quality is of her microphone before we try out the v flex microphone now. This is a test of the viewflex microphone attached through a dongle into the iphone 11.. So one thing i noticed is that, while the microphone built into my smartphone is louder uh, this microphone actually sounds better uh it’s getting rid of a lot of background noise. Uh right now you probably can’t hear it but there’s. Actually, a conversation happening just outside of my door here um, but this microphone being so directional it’s, actually only picking up me and you can probably only hear the other people in between the words that i say so i’m actually pretty impressed with this. So obviously it does work with the dongles, which is fantastic news, i’m, a little sad that they don’t include dongles on the kit, but i totally understand why they don’t the usbc dongle that i had for my android phone cost 10. While my wife’s iphone dongle was closer to 20., this entire mic kit only cost 59, so the cost of including another 30 dollars of dongles would not work out financially.
So we tested it on iphone and android with and without the microphone, and we know that it sounds great in those conditions. The next thing i want to test is these windscreens, both the foam windscreen and the furry dead cat windscreen, because i live in an area of california called the high desert and we get crazy bad winds like chicago level. Winds out here, i don’t know if any windscreen can hold up to the winds we have when filming outdoors, but i want to give these things a try in a real life situation. So let’s go on a little trip, we’re going to bring this kit with us. We’Re going to see how these windscreens hold up under the crazy conditions of the high desert winds so right now, i’m doing a test of the wind muff, just the right one, not yet the dead cat a pretty windy day here in the high desert. According to google uh, the wind is blowing right about 15 miles per hour, which is actually kind of mellow, for where i live all right now, i’m, using the dead cat microphone. I don’t know if you’re gon na be able to see like a little bit of it. I tried to position the lens off to the side, so you want to see any of the dead cat wind muff in the shot, but you might um. The wind is still blowing, i don’t know if it’s any better you’ll have to tell me in the comments down below.
I took the black one off, as you can see here in my hand again it’s, like 15 mile per hour winds. So hopefully this is doing his job, i can’t. Imagine it wouldn’t, be it probably sounds decent again. I won’t know until i go back and watch this footage, but i’m gon na take it off right now, so you can see the difference between having protection like a dead cat and not having protection, so let’s go and take that off all right. So now the microphone is naked and the wind is blowing that went better than i expected um. There were still some times when the audio got muffled and distorted because of the wind but that’s kind of expected. The winds here in the high desert can really overpower anything at this price point at my school when we film outside we have these gigantic dead cats, on top of big blimp enclosures for our microphones and sometimes even that’s, not enough. So the fact that this thing was able to do a really decent job is actually pretty surprising and i’m happy with it. I think this thing is worth every penny it’s incredibly well made, and i think i might find myself stealing it back from the awesomeness from time to time. I’Ve included a link in the description below if you’re interested to the amazon store where you can buy. This thing again, it’s not an affiliate link. I do not get paid anything if you buy this product i’m just trying to be helpful.

Keep being awesome instead, this microphone was born to be used on stage with the band and musical instruments playing and the whole ball waxes, as they pick this thing up off the stand and go hang out over here. While i continue to sing kind of microphone, this is a i’m gon na go sing, while over here by the bass player type of microphone it’s.
