So this is the poco f3. Now first things. First, this is not a review. I only got the phone about 24 hours ago and then over that 24 hours. I also was quite busy because i had a picnic with some friends, so i didn’t really get a chance to really test this phone very thoroughly. Yet i did take it out with me for an afternoon and during the picnic i did use it a lot to capture photos and videos. So i know enough about the phone to give you an early impressions, but this is not a full review. So first things. First, you know poco xiaomi they’re, releasing a lot of phones lately and, to be honest, if you don’t really pay attention, if you’re not like a phone geek, it might be difficult to tell what’s difference between this phone and xiaomi mi 11 or the poco x3 nfc, Or the poco x3 pro or all these other redmi devices, especially since all these phones run the same software. So in my opinion, xiaomi is basically releasing phones in four different categories: there’s the premium top tier ultra flagships. These are phones that can go toe to toe the samsung galaxy s21 ultra and the iphone 12 pro. This would be xiaomi’s me, 10 ultra, and you know if there’s a xiaomi mi 11 ultra the xiaomi mi 11 ultra now. The second tier is just a flagship. So this is still using probably still using the latest qualcomm chip still giving you a really brilliant screen, but it’s, not quite our top tip top premium, flash of all the bells and whistles, and this would be the xiaomi mi 11.
It has a snapdragon triple a excellent brilliant display, one of the best in the industry, but it doesn’t have a telephoto zoom lens, so it’s missing a little bit of stuff that keeps it from competing against the galaxy s21 ultra. So this is the second tier. The third tier is the upper mid range phone that will still give you almost flagship quality specs all around, but cuts several corners that if you dig deep enough, you will see and finally the last category is kind of like the entry level phone. So this would be stuff like the poco m1 and the redmi devices, so the program 3 sits at the very top of the third tier but it’s at the very, very top meaning it’s close to the second tier. If this is getting very complicated, i apologize but hey that’s what happens when one company pumps out like 16 phones a year, okay let’s go over the hardware really quick. So the program f3 gives you a 6.7 inch. Oled display that refreshes out of 120 hertz so oled panel 120 hertz refresh rate. These are features you expect from a premium flagship. But where does the screen fall short of absolute top tier premium flagships that won? It does not have a variable refresh rate, so this screen runs at either 120 or 60.. It doesn’t get to jump around intelligently, like the xiaomi mi 11 or samsung galaxy s21. Ultra second you’ll see right now.
This screen doesn’t look super bright. I think max. Brightness is 900 nits, which is keep in mind, still very damn good, but right now, i’m, outside under the sun heavy overcast day so display looks slightly dull. But again, this is an extreme example. Once i step inside, i give a little bit of shade. This display looks great, so this is the difference between a premium flagship panel and just a top tier panel. There is one area where the f3 screen is better than even the galaxy s21 ultra. It has a 360 hertz touch sampling rate. Now this is not going to matter to most normal users, but if you’re a gamer, a higher touch sampling rate, definitely matters because it reduces the latency between your thumb, moving on the screen and the actual screen moving along your thumb. So a 120 hertz refresh rate plus a 360 hertz touch sampling rate plus me ui, which, in my opinion, is a very fluid and well optimized. Software just makes the poker f3 a joy to use i’m, not much of a gamer but even basic stuff, like scrolling through instagram surfing on twitter stuff, like that everything just zips around so damn fast. I mean look at this now around the back. You have a gorilla glass 5 panel, just like on the front gorilla glass, 5.2 and you have an aluminum chassis, so in terms of build quality and materials used. This is again up there among premium flagship territory now, where pogo cuts a little bit of corners.
In order to give this phone to you at a lower cost is that this phone does not have ip water resistance rating and, despite the fact it uses an oled panel, there is no in display fingerprint reader. Instead, the fingerprint reader is on the side on the right side in the power button, but it is super fast, super responsive and is right in the middle of the phone. So it will be easy to reach for anyone. You know some phones with side mounted. Fingerprint scanners tend to put them a little bit too high that it’s a little bit hard for me to reach. When i hold my phone the left hand now look at the camera system, you have a triple camera array with a 48 megapixel main camera here with a half an inch image sensor and f 1.8 aperture up top. You have an eight megapixel, ultra wide angle, camera and then down here this third camera it’s a five megapixel macro lens. So right now you already know from hearing these specs that this is not a tip top premium flagship camera module, but the main camera, at least from my short testing so far, still captures very sharp, vibrant, well detailed images. Now the ultra wide angle – camera – i got admit it – is a little bit weak, especially at night when you know lighting situation, isn’t, perfect, you’re gon na get a very soft mushy ultra wide angle photo unless you turn on night mode.
That will fix matters a little bit, but when you turn on night mode, you have to hold the phone still for two seconds, so that’s not ideal for every situation. The macro lens does the job, but you guys know my stance by now. We do not need a dedicated camera sensor just to take macro shots, but the main camera so far does seem above average all around and one more good news is xiaomi’s camera software has just gotten really really good in terms of image, processing and also features. Now chinese phones tend to throw a lot of features into the camera app. For example, you know if you use an opal realme phones, you get a lot of beauty features. To be honest, i find those to be quite gimmicky. Xiaomi’S special features are actually really useful. For example, i love ai sky editor like right now, it’s an overcast day, someone take a picture, see the shot doesn’t. Look that good right, because it’s a cloudy gloomy day, but if i tap on the edit icon, tap sky then now out here i can, if i want make the sky look blue, make it look like it’s snowing, give it a little bit of a twilight daylight Music, i also love clone, photo video and also the movie effects filter. You know, like you, can do those inception type shots on the xiaomi mi 11 has carried over to this phone. So, even though the poker f3 camera system isn’t, you know at the quality of other premium flagship cameras, the software makes up for it because it’s very fun to use there’s, so many fun features.
Video stabilization is solid for a mid tier device. I wouldn’t say great: i can definitely grab a smoother videos from the oppo finex 3 pro or the samsung galaxy s21 ultra. But you got to keep in mind the poco f3 it’s gon na cost, probably less than half of what those phones cost. Okay inside a phone, you have a snapdragon 870. Now the snapdragon 870 is a relatively new chip. In fact, i believe this is one of the very first smartphones that use a snapdragon 870.. You know how the snapdragon 865 plus it’s, basically an overclocked souped up version of the snapdragon 865, while the a70 it’s, basically an overclocked souped up version of the a65 plus. So a lot of people in phone media are calling the snapdragon 870, basically snapdragon, 865 plus plus. So that means the snapdragon 870. Technically is not the absolute tip top premium chip, but it is very close to it. It is better than the chip used in last year’s xiaomi, mi, 10 ultra and better than the chip used in the galaxy note. 20 ultra now. This phone has 8 gigs of ram 128 gigs of internal storage or 256, and the ram and the rom are both tip top components. The ram is lp ddr5 ram and the rom uses ufs 3.1 storage. You also have a premium flagship level, stereo speakers here, Music. So sound comes off from down here and also up here. Oh one more thing i want to add the haptic engine in this phone is awesome, it’s, absolutely top tier haptics up there with the xiaomi mi 11, with the iphone with the google pixel, not even the pixel 5, because the pixel 5’s haptics took a step back.
So up there with the google pixel 4’s, very excellent haptics and as for battery life, like i said, i’ve only had the phone for one day. I haven’t really had a chance to really push it yet, but so far from what i can see battery life should be enough to last you all day, because there’s, a 4520 milliamp hour cell inside and there’s also a 33 watt fast charger included in the box. So, depending on what the price is for the poker f3, this is either going to be an excellent value or a pretty good value, like i know for sure, xiaomi is not going to sell this at like 700 us dollars right. This phone’s, probably gon na, be like 500 us dollars, maybe 600, and i think, as long as it’s under 600 us dollars. This is a pretty good value so anyway, that’s about it. Thanks for watching this video, i have a lot more content coming up.
