If you don’t already, please do subscribe to the tech travel geeks here on youtube right, then so i’ve been using the vivo x51 pro 5g for the last few months, and i have to say this has been the most pleasant surprise of a product that i’ve used Since the huawei p30 pro now, this is high praise. It is a very capable camera phone and we’ll go into the camera details in a bit more depth later on in this video. It is very good battery life and the overall experience with that lovely amoled screen makes it a winner. In my opinion, the vivo x, 51, pro 5g is a capable smartphone. The construction is solid, it’s, a glass back glass front and it has a solid aluminium frame. There’S a lot of detailing in that aluminium frame and where antennas are placed that’s particularly noticeable at the top of the device where there’s a clear callout to 5g. The curved screen is curved on the edges and it nicely and gracefully curves into the aluminium frame. Just the same as the back does now, that gives you the perception that it is a slimmer device than it actually is, but that overall slimness is reinforced by a decent amount of heft. It feels solid, well balanced and well built. That feeling comes from the fact that it is well packed in terms of its chipset and batteries. This is running on the snapdragon 765g chipset it’s, a 5g chipset that we’ve already seen in 2020 devices and some devices in 2021, that’s qualcomm, snapdragon 765g is not an 8 series flagship chipset, but for all intents and purposes, and for the use of the vast majority Of smartphone users it’s more than enough for their overall experience.
So when i come to talk about experience that vivo operating system, their fun touch os is very pleasant to use it’s, extremely lightweight and without being stock android or the google android distribution. It’S. Very, very good. Now i talk about it being very good that’s, not just because it’s clean, smooth, stutter free. That is also because i’ve been getting consistent, updates from vivo for the operating it system itself and the security patches. So this device was updated in 2020 to android 11 and has been consistently getting monthly security patches from vivo. This is more than other brands who claim to be android. One partners have been offering to their consumers so i’m very, very pleased that people are doing this and it’s not a fluke it’s, not just the vivo x51. Pro 5g we’ve seen this on the viva y70 as well. Keep an eye out on the tech, travel geeks youtube channel, because we’ll have a full long term review of that device soon too right, then. So the overall experience of that full high definition display is great. It has well saturated colors. It has a fast refresh rate which can be adaptive to save battery and the colors are nice and punchy. This is an hdr plus display, which means that if you are watching hdr content from an app or service that provides that you’ll get that full hdr experience. But even with non hdr content such as some rich live wallpapers or nice imagery, whether you’ve taken it with your camera or another.
One is really really nice. The detail is good, there’s, very little blurring that i’ve noticed and just overall a really good screen. The fact that it’s, full hd plus means that you get a better battery life and overall, it works really well. The smartphone experience on the vivo x51 pro 5g is, as i said, close to stock android. You have a launcher with an app drawer. You have the google shelves, on the left hand, screen it’s all as you’d expect on an android device and it’s good to see that sort of consistency in terms of other software features. Vivo offers a lot with their accessories, as we saw with their wireless earbuds and sports wireless earbuds that we unboxed and provided first impressions of here on the tech, travel geeks youtube channel. Those little touches are great if you’re in the vivo ecosystem, but i had no issues working with other brands of devices at the same time such as my bose, qc35 twos and other bluetooth devices. It also worked really well with android auto in my new car. So, overall, nothing to complain about in terms of the software experience. There are some nice little additions. That don’t seem to be overwhelming for the rest of the experience in terms of gaming. The vivo x51 pro 5g did really really well. It has a dedicated gaming mode which enables you to optimize your experience and, in some cases, also allow you to leave the game running on in the background.
Whilst you have your screen off, this type of functionality also works on other apps that contain video as well. So you can dim your screen or switch it off and carry on listening to content as you go about your day. So this may be something that providers such as youtube and others won’t want you to do, but vivo add that as a nice, little extra touch through fun touch os excuse the pun there in terms of charging the vivo x, 51 pro 5g offers their fast charge. The vivo version of oppo’s rook charging and that’s really really fast. I can get a half charge in around about half an hour from that charger. Sadly, the reviewed unit we were provided with had a european charger, but i do have a eu to uk plug adapter. So that worked great, i can confirm that this also works with other power delivery charges, so you can quickly top up your smartphone from around about 10 to full in just over an hour. The smartphone itself is powered by a 4 350 milliamp hour battery in heavy use, both taking video photographs and using it as my main smartphone. The vivo x51 pro 5g lasted a full day and still had plenty left over. If i had a quiet day in lockdown, where i wasn’t using the smartphone as much out and about and i didn’t leave it on charge at night, i still had plenty the next day and if i needed to top up quickly, that was a great option.
Let’S move on to talk about the cameras on the viewer x51. Pro 5g. It has a really cool setup for cameras, so the main sensor is a 48 megapixel camera. What makes this particularly special is that it has gimbal stabilization it’s, not just optical image, stabilization as we’ve, seen in other smartphone, but it’s actually mounted on a gimbal which gives you an extra level of smoothness when filming video in shaky situations, as well as offering you Even better low light performance when handheld that 48 megapixel camera is paired with an 8 megapixel periscope telephoto camera. That offers you five times optical zoom, and it works very well for an eight megapixel sensor, color reproduction isn’t as deep and as saturated as we get from the main 48 megapixel sensor. But, for example, if you’re out at the park and wanting to take pictures of swans it’s perfect for that situation, there is also a 13 megapixel portrait camera, which is a telephoto camera which offers you the equivalent of three times optical zoom and i’m, really happy to Say: there’s no gimmicky macro camera here that is a full 8 megapixel ultra wide camera paired in as well. So you have four really capable lenses that don’t really fill in the gimmick category as we’ve seen from other brands. The front facing camera is pretty decent as well it’s a 32 megapixel selfie shooter, which is an adopter cut out in the screen at the top left hand, side of the screen – it’s, not an autofocus sensor, but the overall reproduction is great and through software, vivo offer A portrait mode that works very, very well one of the areas that really surprised me with the vivo x51 pro 5g was not only the raw photography in normal use is that software prowess that they demonstrated with nighttime photography, yes being able to take long exposure, astrophotography Shots was really really great.
With a tripod. With around about three minute exposure, i was able to take some pretty impressive shots over the course of the winter. We’Ve had a nice few clear nights and i was really blown away by what it did. There was a significant difference in the color science that vivo have applied to their cameras compared to say my google pixel, 5 or other devices, but overall, the output of those astrophotography and low light shots was very pleasing to the eye and something that i think will Blow many people away once they get to grips with it, that’s, probably down to the 48 megapixel gimbal mounted camera, which i really really liked and, as i said at the beginning of this review, this device, in my view, is the true air to the huawei p30. Pro in terms of its overall software experience with google services and, more importantly, with that great setup of cameras that don’t have any redundant or sticker cameras, as our friend hiriam likes to call them. So, to conclude, this long term review of the vivo x51 pro 5g. I would say this is a really good deal, sadly, it’s not as widely available to purchase as other smartphones in the market i’m still to find a network carrier in the uk that offers the vivo x 51 pro 5g within their portfolio. But it is available from amazon and we’ll. Leave you some links in the description. So, if you’re looking for a great all round smartphone without having to pay flagship prices for a smartphone, the vivo x51 pro 5g is a great option.
Great cameras, great software experience in the three months, or so that i’ve been using this device. It’S had great software updates and i’ve had no issues with it at all. Fast charging is great, but battery life itself is consistent with a day of heavy use. So i would say the only thing: that’s missing, in my opinion, is a headphone jack, but luckily vivo offers you a usb type c. True, 3.5 millimeter adapter in the box, as well as the charger, the cable and a set of earphones. If you haven’t already, please do check out our unboxing and first impressions, videos that we have on the tech travel youtube channel. But for now i will be sad because i have to say goodbye to the vivo x51 pro 5g and send it back to vivo, who very kindly provided us with this review unit. As usual, vivo had no input into our review process and we’ll. Have this device returned to them soon, so thank you for watching.
