The samsung has got the largest and prettiest screen and arguably the most modern design, but are there any hidden caveats? Hello guys? My name is vic with phone arena, and my search for a budget phone was actually to replace an older phone that my parents were using, and the galaxy a51 in many ways seemed like the perfect replacement, not too expensive, big and modern. Luckily, we had one lying around in the office and i just had to take it for a spin and use it myself and see if i myself would actually like switching to it and whether it’s the right choice. So a quick summary: the galaxy a51 comes with a 1080p 6.5 inch amoled screen, and that is a huge advantage over say the lcd screen on the iphone se, for example, that comes with a much lower resolution and just doesn’t look as good, and i love the Screen the moment i saw it, it really looks great and just to make sure i actually compared it to a flagship screen and you would be hard pressed to find much of a difference. Colors look equally, vibrant everything is tech, sharp and probably the only thing you would even notice is is that it doesn’t get as bright, and it is a bit more reflective, so it’s not quite enjoyable to use outdoors, but let’s not forget that this is a budget Phone we’re talking about and for this class, this screen is just incredible by the way, if you enjoyed this video, consider subscribing to our channel phone arena, so you don’t miss our new videos so anyway.
Let’S just also say that this phone being made of plastic is not really something that concerns me at all. In fact, plastic doesn’t break like glass. If you drop it and allows the phone to be super lightweight, which is a big advantage, if you carry it in your pocket, the a52, however, does not have any sort of special water protection, which i wish it did another great thing the a51 has got going For it is the camera or rather cameras. You’Ve got all four different cameras on the back, but really only two of them are actually useful, the main and the ultra wide one. So you don’t have a zoom lens and instead you only get a separate camera for macro photos that i found of not much use and another camera just to measure depth information which again, i pretty much found useless. So yeah two cameras that really count here, but just these two cameras were actually quite good. I love the colors you get on: samsung phones, rich and vibrant, and most images i took during the day looked just great and not much different than on a flagship, and that is a big plus. The bigger problem with the galaxy a51 comes in the video recording department, see you can record 4k video on the galaxy a51, and that sounds great on paper. But the thing is that you lack any proper video stabilization, so footage turns out very jittery and not smooth at all.
Now, thankfully, there is a fix to that. You can go into the camera app and you have the super steady mode and once you enable it, you get smooth footage in 4k video resolution, but keep in mind that, while using this feature, you’re actually using the ultra wide camera, so the quality is a bit Below what you get with the main camera, but since you get much smoother footage that’s what i would personally use Music, hey, what’s up guys nick here with bald arena, and in this windy day we have the samsung galaxy a5 and it’s main camera. That now shoots in 4k. Follow me: it’s, really windy. Let’S, take the uh video stabilization and the voice reduction. Everything let’s go right now: we’re recording in 4k with the main camera on this phone, and you also have an ultra wide camera. But you cannot switch once you started, recording with the main one to not switch to the auto white, which is a bit of a bummer, but it is what it is. Let’S move the camera up and down to see how it adjusts to different lighting a little bit slower. So, while testing the camera, i was also a bit disappointed that you don’t have close up portrait mode and instead you can only capture portrait shots with the white camera and that often looks bad with people. So i really wish the feature was there? Okay? So far? So good, no big compromises in the camera.
This looked like pretty much the perfect device for the price, but once i started using the a51 more i was in for a letdown see. The a51 is available in a couple of different models with a different processor depending on the market, but while the us 5g model of the a51 has a bit more powerful chip than the rest of the world, no a51 model is what i would call a fast Phone, so every little thing takes a bit longer here: animations are stuttery and, if, like me, you’re buying this for an older person who is not well versed in technology. Well, that would only add to their frustration, won’t it so here’s a comparison of a few simple tasks that i tried in parallel on the galaxy and on the iphone se notice the difference in speed, and in my view, that is a massive difference. Another big red flag is the fingerprint scanner which here it is under the screen and feels just a bit slow to respond. The other rivals in this area use a traditional fingerprint scanner, not one built inside the screen, and that might be old fashioned and not as flashy, but it is faster and more reliable. Okay, finally, let’s talk battery life, because this is one area where the galaxy feels quite honestly great. It comes with a 4 000 milliamp hour battery, which is more than double the size of the battery inside the iphone se it’s just crazy, and this battery can last you two days if you don’t use your phone all that much and even if you use it, It will still last you more than a day in our battery tests, the galaxy outlasted, the iphone ac by a mile take a look at the results from our various tests, it’s just a night and day difference in favor of the samsung Music.
So one little convenience that is missing on the a51 is wireless charging and that would have been nice to have but it’s not here. So, at the end of the day, i was almost convinced that the galaxy a51 would be the perfect choice for my parents, but after using it for a while, i have to say that the sluggish and stuttery performance was actually a deal breaker for me and, despite All the great things this phone is going for it. I would not be buying it myself now, if you think that a bit of a stutter here – and there is not a big deal. However, this might just be the perfect budget option, with a truly amazing screen. Great battery life and more than a good enough camera and, of course, don’t forget that the new galaxy a52, the replacement to this model is already out in some countries and is soon coming to others, and that one brings a 90 or 120 hertz refresh rate, depending On the model that will address my biggest complaint, which is the stuttery performance, so make sure to also check out our review of the galaxy a52 linked in the description box anyway, thanks for staying with me and do let me know if you’re using the galaxy a51 Yourself and how do you find it, do you like the phone, and would you recommend it looking forward to your comments and thoughts, my name is vic.
