I heard that he’s throwing out some security cameras, oh there’s, a light and then there’s a camera. Okay, Music, hello, guys life hackster here today, we’ll be checking out the new solar wall. Light from ring ring has added another light on their smart lighting lineup, and this time it is a wall light which is basically the same wedge, shaped design that you see in all other solar motion lights that you can purchase at amazon. I actually have reviewed and still use these cheap solar lights, and i have some from lemontex lupus wine and recently from lightums, and they do work pretty good. I did change some of them like my lemontext, because they have already aged. They do still work, though, and i also replaced the lupus wine in my trash area, because it is now not reliable in detecting motion, but i did have good two years worth of service from them. I replaced them with aeotex, which is amazon’s best seller. Solar motion light and have been working pretty good, but today i’ll be replacing it with this new ring solar wall light and for a couple of reasons and features that all these other solar motion lights, don’t have and the first one is for you to be able To control the light from the app and from anywhere you have internet connection on your phone and be able to integrate it with other ring. Smart lighting products, and also with ring cameras and the other one, is that it has a 3500 kelvin color temperature, which is more of a warm yellow light and it will match with rings other lights, including their floodlight camera, instead of 5000 kelvin white light, which all Other solar lights have one caveat, though, is for the light to be added and be controllable on the ring app, it needs the ring bridge, which is another purchase and with the ring bridge you can connect up to 50 ring smart lights, i’ve been using the ring.
Smart lights from their floodlight step, light spotlight and low voltage transformer and made a couple videos about them, which i will link it down below. If you want to check it out, so we will do a quick unboxing check out its specs and features set it up and do the installation and see if this solar motion wall light from ring will be a good choice for your home. As you can see, it just came in the gray box, unlike rings other products. No specs or features in the outside of the box also seems weird that this light is available at amazon at best buy, but not even listed at rings. Website let’s check out its specs and features. It is solar charge, wall light that is 800 lumens bright and it is not white light but more of a warm yellow light 3500 kelvin temperature. It does need to be connected to the ring bridge so as to be able to control the light from the app you can. Sync, with other ring smart lights and ring cameras. You can get motion, notifications and it’s weather resistant, negative 4 to 122 degrees fahrenheit and is ip66 or ip64, while in use rated opening up the box, you will see the solar wall light front and center and it has some weight to it. Build quality is pretty good, looks and feels solid. We have the glossy solar panel on top, we have the pir sensor and a diffused cover for the led lights in the front.
On the back. We have the attachment points on the mount and we have the rubber plug covered port, which is a barrel type. If you want to hook it up on another ring solar panel or plug in an adapter, then we have the battery compartment, which will see two 18650 lithium ion batteries. So it will have a rechargeable and replaceable batteries and it also has a micro, usb port and a reset sync orange button. What else is inside the box? We have a mounting plate. We have a micro, usb, cable, mounting screws and plastic anchors. Then some paperwork time to set this up but ring, recommends to charge the battery first to top it off. Please take note that in my setup i already have ring smart lighting around my house and have the ring bridge already set up. If not, then you have to set up the ring bridge first by the way, if you find this video, my other videos helpful don’t, forget to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel if you haven’t done it yet and click the bell notification. So as to get notified when upload product reviews like this video product updates comparison, videos and long term reviews, thank you open up the ring, app and scroll down and click setup device choose. Smart lighting scan the qr code, which is found in the back of the light or in the quick start guide, remove the battery tabs, which i already did so i just have to remove it.
Put back in the batteries to initiate setup and mine has to do an update, which you have to wait. Then choose a group where you’re going to place the wall, light, which i will add it to my side group name. The light which i’ll name mine, trash light click continue and wait until the light is connected to your ring bridge and when the light lights up, it is now connected ring recommends to install the light around 10 feet high, which is not going to happen. In my case, probably 8 feet in my setup and if you have already added your ring account to alex a then it will automatically be set up. First, i have to remove my eotech, which, by the way, works pretty good, no issues. I already have drilled holes from the lupus whiten and i’ll, be using one of the existing holes and we’ll need to drill a new one in put in the plastic anchor and screw in the mounting plate. Just align the ring wall light to the holes in the back and slide it down to secure it in place time to check out the settings in the app in the main app page. You can scrub the menu to the left and get to the lights. Click on it and you will see your light groups. The wall light is in the side group and you will see the other lights associated in this group. Now you can turn on all the lights in the group or set motion alerts, click on the trash light and you’ll be able to turn on or off the lights and motion detection.
Then you can adjust the brightness. We have the event history, which shows the events and motion events that happened. We have the light settings where we have the light sensor which prevents the light from turning on in daytime. You can turn it on and off from here, then you can adjust the sensitivity. The higher the setting the earlier the light will turn on. Then we have the motion settings and you can adjust the sensitivity of the detector from low to high or even customize it. Then we have linked devices, and one cool feature of the ring is that you can link them to any of your ring products and cameras in the house. In my case, i have my ring: stick up cam 3 linked and it will start recording when the wall light senses motion. Then we have the light schedules where you can add and set which dates and set, which times the light will turn on or like. In my case set thus to dawn – and this will just be a low intensity light or dimmed light, and when it detects motion it will turn on full blast. We will test this later on. Then we have device health which shows device status and signal strength, and we have the battery level time to test this out. So, as you can see in the side of the house, the ring solar wall light, which is on dust to done setting. So it is dimly lit, but when i get closer my ring floodlight turned on, but we’re gon na get closer.
It will turn on full brightness and it will also activate my ring. Stick up. Can so it actually lights up the side of my house pretty good and by the way you will get notification on both well, i got the me ring floodlight and also the trash light detected motion, so you will get notifications and one good thing is because it Is a 3500 kelvin color temperature light it’s a yellow light? It complements my ring. Floodlight camera show stick up: cam 3, okay, and you will see the here later on that the sticker cam it has the color night vision turned on, but it’s still a little bit dark. So what i’m gon na do is turn on trash light. Okay show stick up cam 3, okay, and then you will see that it is now the light is turned on and it is in full color. So what do you think guys? Overall? This is a good addition to the ring smart lighting lineup compared to other ring. Smart lights, the design will blend more and doesn’t really stand out as compared to rings floodlight or spotlight, which can be an eyesore depending on where you’re going to place it. A very good location for this light will be on the sides of your house. I personally like these types of light, as you have seen in my previous videos, have the lighthouse and lupus white and solar motion lights in which lights up the side of my house.
The motion detection of the light is pretty good and i didn’t get any false notifications, since i had it and pretty spot on in motion detection and notifications as to numbers from 76 charge and with a cloudy day it charged up to 89 percent. At the end of the day, but when you set up dust dawn, which the light will turn on continuously at night in the lowest setting the next day battery charge went down from 86 percent to 76 percent. A ten percent consumption which is not bad just make sure you have a decent amount of sunlight hitting the solar panel.
