It mixed form, function and value in a way that made sense for enthusiasts and normal consumers alike at 469 pounds sure it wasn’t cheap, but it got you a solid amount of smartphone for your money. The 6t could have been seen as rather similar, but i find it to be more of a departure than many outlets and reviewers were talking about at the time these days. Oneplus devices are less like flagship killers and more like traditional flagships. The latest one is more. Like a samsung than a traditional oneplus and the nord devices are simply cheap, oppo derivatives, my partner has just recently upgraded from the oneplus 6.. So how is the three year old oneplus device? Is it worth buying in 2021? Is it worth holding on to, or is it simply just not usable, hey guys, i’m ryan, thomas and today, we’re going to find out, you can get one of these on ebay for around 150 pounds. That will get you one in good condition, with no real cracks. There may be a few scratches, but that’s about it, and all pricing that i’m going to provide is from ebay and facebook marketplace in the uk. This may differ by region there’s, quite a bit of value in the oneplus 6. Actually, you’ll get a headphone port, a proper rear, fingerprint scanner and an otherwise very solid smartphone when it comes to the display, the design, the performance and the charging ability. And, of course, a lot of the value when it comes to oneplus was mostly from the software.
But we’ll talk about that later on in the video. Firstly, i want to touch upon the design because it’s one of my favorite parts of the oneplus 6 and one of the pieces that stands out from the notch up the front to the relatively small center placed rear camera bump to the flat display. The oneplus 6 harks back to simpler times of smartphone design, there’s no ip rating, no in display fingerprint scanner. The overall design doesn’t feel so futuristic, but i feel like that’s, more unique as a lot of phones in 2021, a very cookie cutter and this thing is kind of unique. In that sense, many didn’t mind the notch. I mean the iphone 12 series has sold a lot and that still has quite a sizable one on there, and this one is a lot smaller of a notch. Anyway, it houses one of the coolest features of the oneplus 6. In my opinion and that’s, the notification led this is something that, for some reason, you don’t see in many smartphones in 2021. Of course, there’s no stereo speakers in this model, which is a shame, but you did get a headphone port. It was actually the last flagship oneplus with a headphone port. The display is also a very simple setup: it’s, a 6.28 inch 1080p 60hz oled panel, which looks pretty good to be honest, it’s not super smooth and it might not get quite as bright as you might like, but it’s biggish, sharp colorful and has solid contrast.
Thanks to the use of an oled screen, it’s sizable enough to watch films on and tv and even play a few games, but it’s, definitely not the biggest display out there and it having a notch means that it’s not uninterrupted. Unfortunately, so it’s, a good mix of ergonomics and just being a big enough display to consume multimedia on performance is a key talking point for oneplus with its newer devices. But after three years the oneplus 6 does struggle more than my older galaxy note. 8. In my testing i’m not sure if this is a lack of optimization or something, but the six does stutter quite a bit. It’S not awful, but i feel like you can get better performing phones even used ones for 150 pounds on the used market. The software is also something a lot of oneplus. People enjoyed the phones for, but these days it’s not so good. So this launched with android 8.1 but it’s only upgradable to android 10.. I feel like if it got android 11 fairly soon, maybe it’s more recommendable, but right now i don’t know it’s kind of out of date and well usually, i don’t really complain about these things i feel like. I should hold one plus to a higher standard, just because in the past, they’ve been so good at handling software updates. But ever since a certain someone left the company – maybe not so much, however, for those who don’t really care about the latest and greatest software and just want to use their phone, the oneplus 6 is pretty good.
The performance is alright, it does stutter, often it’s. Definitely not silky smooth anymore, i feel like a couple of factory resets might make it a little smoother. However, the issue that we’re having on this unit is it it just stutters an awful lot when switching between apps, we do have the six gigabyte ram. 64 gigabyte storage option and there’s also a higher version of that 8 by 128, which could help with this. But i haven’t got one of those in for testing. Unfortunately, charging isn’t rapid by today’s standards either but is better than the average quick charge from a few years ago, north to 60 takes half an hour which, at lunch time should see through the rest of the day. Thanks to the 20 watt dash charge break that oneplus has since moved away from for faster speeds, the battery life itself, isn’t too bad. As long as you take that charger with you and top it up at lunch time, you will get a full day. However, without topping up and without charging a used and degraded cell like the one found – and this phone is not going to get you a full day unless you’re a very, very light user, you know with turning the mobile data off turning bluetooth off. But if you’re the sort of person who’s commuting and listening to music or anything like that, this thing is going to run out of juice pretty quickly. Something else that oneplus has moved on from is its traditionally sub par cameras and unfortunately, the oneplus 6 is laden with those pretty meh shooters.
There are three in total: a 16 megapixel selfie camera, a 16 megapixel main rear camera and a 20 megapixel rear camera. That’S meant to help with low light performance. Does it i mean the oneplus 6 was never a chart, topping camera in the first place, and you really shouldn’t expect anything much from it after an extra three years, it’s good enough in decent light with the main camera. But if you’re a bit of a shutterbug, the pixel 3 from the same era will deliver much better results. You get photo portrait and nightscape mode, so there is a slither of versatility in there, but without the extra focal lengths there’s not much to play around with. In subpar lighting you’ll struggle to capture good photos with the oneplus 6. there’s, a lot of noise and a lot of noise reduction artefacting, so it really isn’t ideal in those kinds of scenarios. As an overall camera package, i’d steer clear of the oneplus 6. If you like, taking lots of photos, because this ain’t it chief as the kids say so – is the oneplus 6 still good in 2021. Well, i found it a bit of a mixed bag. The software wasn’t necessarily the best the performance again, not really the best. The ergonomics and design i actually really liked the cameras meh and the battery life meh. So what i’m really trying to say is maybe stay clear of this one unless you’re a lighter user that just wants a solid device, so maybe steer clear of this one unless you’re a really light user who likes things like a traditional fingerprint scanner, a headphone port.
The oneplus look and oneplus software because that’s, where you’re going to find all of those things in one place. However, if you’re just looking for a solid android smartphone, i reckon we’re going something like the galaxy note, 9 or note 8. If you need to spend around the same amount of money or if you can get something like a pixel 3axl and with that i’m going to finish today’s video. Thank you all so much for watching.
