The days of full page ads like earlier, we used to see sometimes in the redmi phones have stopped, but they have been moved to something else. I call this nag where and stuff and new amount of uh. What do you say stuff that you’re using i made some notes? So have a look at it and we are seeing this first trend and i would say why this is happening. A lot on. What do you say? Android, smartphone, specifically in the mid range smartphones uh. You guys need to understand that the competition specifically in the mid range smartphone is very, very tight. Just a couple of variation of thousand rupees 1500 rupees up and down the user preferences, actually change it and that’s why these oems are not able to have that fat margins that they used to have earlier and to compensate to that they have resorted to these things. For example, if you notice in most of the mid range android smartphones uh, when you get the phone there’ll, be a bunch of what you see unnecessary apps that are pre installed, and these manufacturers get money from these app developers. Uh they go to app developers. They say: we’ll pre install this specific app and we expect that the smartphone will be sold to a couple of million users, so they charge a fee and that’s. Why? You find a lot of what you say: pre installed, apps these days on new mid range, android, smartphones, that’s, a way to recoup some of the cost that they are giving.
Specifically. I would say this happens a lot on uh online centric smartphones, but now it’s creeping, even to what you say: offline centric smartphone, for example, samsung galaxy, a series we are seeing a lot of stuff like this are happening so that’s how they make some money. I would say like this these days. Fortunately many of these apps, you can uninstall, but it is a lot of bloatware. Is there uh? Second thing is? We will also see that a lot of these the mid range android smartphones, almost all i would say, except again, motorola and nokia – that they don’t do they have their own app store. That is also pre installed on these smartphones and generally, you cannot uninstall that app store, for example xiaomi they have. This gets app. Uh samsung has their own app store. Realme also has their own app store. So why are they doing this and again? This is how they get money. For example, if you guys don’t know, google app store is there? What do you say? Google play store that we call with every android smartphone, but google generally for the paid, apps and stuff takes almost a 30 percent crack, and i think so, by having these oem’s own app store like xiaomi, has the sketch app samsung has their own realme has their Own, i think so they are able to get a cut of that that they don’t have to pay to google that’s.
Why you see that we have their app store and these app stores might be charging a lesser com commission compared to google. That is the reason. Uh, these oems are bundling that extra app store that we find on samsung phones, xiaomi, phones, real me, phones, uh. So that is one big reason that you’ll have – and i don’t think so – they’ll stop putting their own app store, because this is a very lucrative business. Uh, whenever you install apps via their own app store, instead of the google play store, these oems get a cut. Next thing i really do not like is. This is not strictly ads, but we are also seeing a lot of unwanted notifications that come in your notification. Tray and again these are sort of indirect ads. I would say this is also started happening. Quite a bit xiaomi you sometimes get through, gets apps and some some recommendation and stuff install this app that app even on samsung smartphones. The my galaxy app sends you notifications, and some of the oems for their third party apps, for example, weather apps and stuff might show ads. So this is also happening quite a bit. This is a sneaky way to push out ads, i would say not strictly ads, but a notification, but fortunately for most of the notification type, you can actually just slide and disable the notifications that way you can get rid of it, but this is another way that They make money next thing that i’m seeing – and this is a very annoying thing that we started to see in the last couple of months – is that with the ot updates, you think when you get an ot update with the new smart uh, it will fix bugs And stuff, yes, it will fix some bugs and stuff, but what is happening lately is that these oems now have with this ota updates, are also bundling new, unnecessary apps junk wear, and there is no way to like stop that.
If you want that update with that, you will get a lot of junk apps, and this is happening a lot again now, even with samsung. Mid range smartphones, for example, m series: a series when you get a ot update, it’ll, just silently install a lot of junk apps. So this is again happening and again this these oems have found a new way to make money again, as i’ve told you, they make money by pre installing apps. So this is a new way that they’re doing – and this is a very crappy way of doing things – i fear – and this should stop, but sadly that is happening – and i don’t think so sorry about that – and i think so. This will not stop. But this is a very shitty mood move, in my frank opinion, pushing unwanted apps via ota, uh, updates and guys you. You have to be vocal about it when you see that complaint to the brand, because if we don’t stop we’ll continue to see this crap and next thing is uh. Why are these brands doing this? As i’ve told you in the mid range smartphone market, the competition is very high. By doing this ads and stuff, they can substantially lower the cost. I feel of the device making it price competitive because in the mid range market, specifically in india, even if a smartphone price varies about 1000 to 1500 rupees users just might just go to a different model, and i think so, indirectly these brands xiaomi tickets samsung.
You take it etc are making quite a bit of substantial chunk of money via this, because i know many users are vocal about this. Nobody likes junk on their smartphones, unwanted apps, unwanted notifications, but these brands continue to do that and they’re, not stopping it. In fact, they have increased it. For example, samsung now, in their mid range smartphones like m series, a series is doing that quite a bit, so i don’t know these brands are making substantial chunk of money. Even when users are complaining, we are seeing that and i think so. This will not stop, at least in the mid range smartphones, because it is kind of subsidizing, this smartphone price, but the guys do. Let me know what do you feel? Do you think these smartphone vendors should release one more variant of that smartphone without the junkware or whatever? Maybe it can be priced? I don’t know ten percent more. If they do that, will you be willing to buy it or not? Is the big question, but still i would say there are some brands that are not including ads and junk, where uh, even in metering, smartphone, motorola and nokia comes to my mind. But again, if you look at motorola and nokia smartphones for a particular spec phone, their pricing will be slightly higher thousand rupees or even 2 000 rupees. And the simple reason is that they have. They are not earning that money back by uh, not including all this chunkwear.
So indirectly, you are paying that for a clean android experience and i uh get the point uh. These brands are including it for the mid range and the budget range smartphone, but the sad fact is that some of the oems are in also including what he says: unwanted notifications and stuff, i won’t say uh ads – are very bad. For example, i have the samsung galaxy four it’s, a very premium, smartphone cost about one and a half lakhs, and if you enable the samsung account on this one, you will get some unnecessary notifications even on this one. So i don’t get it get the point. Yes, i get the point for mid range, smartphones, etc, which are very aggressively priced you’re, pushing this ad, but i feel for premium smartphones, let’s say if a smartphone is more than 40 000 and stuff. Should these oems include any ads, i feel uh. They should not include ads or any unnecessary, broadway and other stuff that i’m talking on the premium and smartphones. So what do you guys feel about these ads situation and most of the android smartphones would love to know your thoughts about it and, you might say, iphones are relatively clean in this department? Yes, i agree but again notice the premium of the iphone. I think so iphone and their hardware are very open. They make that huge premium and that’s why you don’t get the ads on iphones, but i feel uh.
We also have premium android smartphones if the smartphone is up at a premium at a certain price point. Maybe 40 000 or more then it should simply not have any ads and should have a very clean experience. But what do you guys think about the same?
