When you have games like call of duty, mobile, fortnite and pub g, then you’re faced with a whole screen of virtual buttons, and unless you play on an ipad or adopt a very unergonomic claw grip, then you’re pretty limited as to how many buttons you can press At any given time, that is, unless you have one of these, this is a smartphone game, grip, controller, gamepad thingy, whatever you like to call it it’s a controller in the sense of it, allows you to control your games, although there’s no digital connections, it’s all based On mechanical input, oh and by the way i’ve made subtitles in this video, so if you’re short on time feel free to jump through to the various sections that interest you most so before we answer that million dollar question. Does this make you better at games? Let’S? Just take a look at how it actually works. This is one of many game groups that you can find on amazon that’s around 15 to 20 pounds or 20 to 30 dollars in a us there’s many different brands producing these as well. All of them i’ve never heard of so they’re likely to be similar sort of quality. Now let’s face it. This is not a premium product. Far from it, it feels like everything, was just chucked into the box, but we’re not spending lots of money here. So that’s not particularly an issue. This controller has four triggers connected with spring mechanisms to what i would call these little nubs, they’re sort of like the end of a cheap stylus when you pull the triggers these make contact with the screen.
So these are mainly created for games where you can customize the layout of the virtual buttons and place them underneath these contact areas. You will also see that there are some cutout areas at the side of the controller so that you can keep your phone rigged up to the charger while playing this particular game grip has a stand which doesn’t really come in handy, especially if you’re just using it To play games – and it also has a rechargeable fan as well, which is supposed to help keep your device cool, but it seems to make more noise than any actual air. Placing your phone into the grip is extremely easy. You simply flick up these contact points, stretch out the controller and slide your phone in. I will say that there was some slight movement with my iphone 12 mini, but with most of the smartphones being larger, the grip should be tighter and more secure. If you’re enjoying this video so far, a sub would be absolutely amazing. Then we come to setting it up for the purpose of this. Video i’ll mainly be playing call of duty mobile as that’s a game i’m really familiar with and i’m very comfortable with the touch base, controls but there’ll be other games featured as well. Now you’ll have some decisions to make which buttons do you map to which trigger, and for me it was mainly a case of trying to reduce the amount of time my thumbs were off.
The movement controls there’d been times in the past, where i’ve come up against an enemy in the game and as they’re shooting me they’d, suddenly start lying down or jump around like a crazy rabbit and it’s really difficult to keep your aim on them. So i wanted to try that out for myself, i decided to map the crouch and prone button to one trigger and the jump button to the other. I then map the standard fire button onto the other right trigger and then the aim downside button onto the other left trigger, which is similar to what you would get on the console game. Theoretically, this would allow me to slide jump, scoping and hip fire all whilst maintaining constant control over my movement and aiming so. How did i get on let’s? Take a look. It did take a few games to get used to having these additional controls and having to think about controlling more aspects at once, but i did find that i soon got used to this and with the new setup it became incredibly natural to play. You will see that the gameplay here is all quite crazy. I was trying to test it to the extreme by sliding everywhere and jumping around and interestingly, i found some weapons to suit these controls, better than others being able to track enemies. Movements across the screen, whilst hip firing, definitely made shotguns easier to use and the same could be said with hand to hand combat weapons like the knife and the baseball bat where you could constantly slide around to avoid the incoming fire out of all of the weapon Classes, though, i will say that it affected the sniper rifles.
The most i felt like it gave a significant advantage for two reasons. The first is that you’re able to quick scope effectively firing before the scope in animation is fully complete. This really allows you to get your shot off quicker than the default touch, controls of tapping and holding to aim and releasing to fire. The second advantage is that you can easily remain scoped in and not have to come out of this scope in between shots. You can keep your enemies in your sights between shots, which is really helpful when are multiple enemies or if you miss your first shot. It’S also useful to have a quick look at an area to see if there’s any enemies there jumping back to the controls. This is how i decided to set it up for myself, but you could set up differently. You might decide to put the reload button on one of the triggers, or perhaps you want to map the grenade button to the other trigger so paired with a quick photo grenade option. This allows you to toss a grenade into an area really quickly and what’s. Great about call of duty is that you can change the opacity of the buttons as well, so you can turn these right down and visually clean up the screen to see the game better. The only issue that i faced using this was that some of the automatic weapons stopped firing at halfway through a gunfight which isn’t great, but i discovered that i just needed to pull the trigger harder than initially thought and that quickly resolved this call of duty aside.
This can benefit other games as well. Although this is limited to games that you can customize the controls or games that use the whole side of the screen as a button, it can fit the screen in a simple game like jetpack joyride, so you’re not blocking upcoming obstacles, with your thumb and the same. Could be said for other games like tiny wings, where you’re benefiting by being able to see the whole screen. I found that real racing fee also worked well, despite not having fully customizable controls as it utilizes the whole right hand. Side of the screen to accelerate the whole left hand side of the screen to break. There was something really quite nice about having that physical action of slamming on a trigger to break while flying into a corner. So let’s go back to that question then. Does this make you better at games? I’D have to say yes on the basis that it gives you the potential to be better, although it does come with a caveat in that you’re going to be quite restricted in terms of what games you can use this for and what’s annoying. Is that call of duty, mobile doesn’t? Let you save multiple controller layouts, so you’re either fully invested in using this or you have to change the layout of the buttons. Every time you switch between the grip and the normal touch, controls you’ll also have to make sure you turn your notifications off, as well as the triggers are perfectly positioned to tap any income and notification burners.
To be honest, i didn’t have much hope for this, especially at this cheap cost, which is why it surprised me that it actually worked and it worked really well. It allowed me to make certain types of movements or shots that i simply couldn’t do before, and something that i didn’t foresee was that the hand grips made gaming on the phone much more comfortable to the point where playing without these grips suddenly made the phone feel Awkward to hold as an alternative, you may be considering playing with a bluetooth controller with a phone clip, but i found that the thumbsticks never really translated well to on screen movements. This right here creates a really nice combination of touchscreen controls with physical buttons, and it works incredibly well sounds good doesn’t it, but wait before you all run off to buy one. As i mentioned earlier, it’s, not the greatest build quality. You can see that there is movement in the grip and one of the touch knobs seemed to have caved in on itself, which didn’t affect how it performed, but it was slightly worrying, seeing as this was only after a couple of hours of use. So should you get one well if you play lots of call of duty, fortnite or pub g those type of games where you can really customize the on screen buttons, you feel like you’ve, hit the limit of what touch based controls can do, and you really want To be able to do more, then it’s definitely worthwhile checking out because it’s not going to break the bank and it’s probably worth it just for the handgun cologne, because it’s going to make those longer gaming sessions much more enjoyable.
I do hope that one day i can come across a more premium, well built sturdier version of this, because i do prefer these over the bluetooth controllers that you can get, although for now it looks like i’m having to stick with this. I hope you enjoyed the video don’t forget to hit like and subscribe.
