What i’m going to say? Music, Applause, Music, welcome back folks, i’m, lloyd, pervis, and this is run for adventure hope you are all well and training hard back at the channel today. It is shoe review time and it’s going to be a very interesting shoe review today. Indeed, we are taking our in depth. Look at nike’s new trail running shoe the terra kyger 7. after we filmed our first run. First impressions video. If you haven’t seen that video it’s well worth checking out i’ve left a link in the description we had our doubts about the level of traction from this outsole on this trail shoes, especially in muddy conditions, but also we had doubts about the level of stability from That midsole on uneven terrain so before we find out if those doubts became a reality, let’s give you a few facts and figures on nike’s latest version of their lightweight trail running shoe the terra kyger 7.. The shoe retails in the uk at 125 pounds weight wise. It weighs in at 311 grams in a men’s uk, 9.5 and 260 grams in a women’s shoe as far as heel off set goes. It runs on a four mil drop, so we’ve got 30 mil on the heel and 26 mil under your forefoot. The shoe is currently available in three different colorways for men and for women, and when it comes down to the fit of the shoe, i would say it sizes up true to size, with average width in the toe box.
As far as construction of the new terra kyger7, there has been quite a few changes made to the shoe compared to the previous version. Probably the biggest change and the most noticeable change is the air zoom unit that used to be in the heel of the terrace 6 has been moved to the forefront of the terra chiga 7 and the rock plate that used to be in the previous version. Under your forefoot has now been moved to the heel, so we’ve had a quick switch around of those two features. The shoe still runs off. A full nike react midsole, but there has been some depth added to that midsole. So the stack height of the shoe is about three mil deeper. Just to give you that slightly softer, more cushioned feel underfoot also to undergo a few changes. Is the outsole of the shoe, so we’ve got a bit more blown rubber on that outsole, especially at the mid foot of the shoe on the previous version. The midfoot is quite exposed, which i always found weird on a trail running shoe. Surely you want some grip on the midfoot, so we have it now in the new version. So this should offer you a bit more traction while you’re out hitting the trails, but it doesn’t stop. There. Nike have also beefed up this lug pattern, made it a bit more aggressive than the previous version of the shoe. So hopefully, the new terra 7 should offer a better level of traction while out on the tricky british trails um after our first run.
First impressions, video i’m, not sure nike, have fully achieved their goal on to the new upper design and construction and nike have made a few tweaks when it comes to the upper, but no drastic changes taking place there. So the shoe is still constructed using a nice lightweight breathable engineered mesh construction. We have still got quite a thin gusseted tongue in the shoe to allow the runner to get a nice precise, lockdown around their midfoot and then nike have added this sort of clever zonal. Padding down the center of that thin tongue, just to give you a bit more comfort across the top of your foot when it comes to the ankle collar and the heel cup of the shoe there’s been some changes made there as well. Nike have kind of moved away from the sort of conventional heel cup type of design to a more modern design, featuring laminated padding on the inside of the shoe a new dynamic, fit system and redesigned lacing system features on the new upper on the terracyga7. This is to offer the trail runner a more secure fit in the upper a more dialed in feel around your midfoot, even when you’re upping the miles on uneven terrain. Unfortunately, all these changes to the upper and the midsole construction have added a bit of weight to the new terra kyger 7.. This is always quite disappointing when a shoe goes up in weight, especially when nike kind of pitched this shoe as being their lightweight super responsive sort of racing trail shoe, but there you have it folks, a bit of info about the specs of this new trail shoe From nike, but also a few details about the changes that have been made when it comes to the terra kyger, seven we’ve continued to run in the shoe, since our first run.
First, impressions, video, if i’m honest, i haven’t, quite managed to hit that 30 mile target that we like to hit before we review a shoe on the channel. If you stay tuned, you will find out why very soon but let’s highlight the things we’ve really enjoyed about the shoe and maybe go through a few or a lot of the issues we’ve had but let’s start with the positive stuff. First, the new redesigned upper actually feels very comfortable wrapped around your foot, and i was quite surprised. It actually brought a little smile to my face. The first time i put my foot in this shoe this redesigned heel cup very, very comfortable having this nice sort of laminated zonal, padding internally in that heel cup, very, very comfortable, but also offers a really good lock down around the back end of the shoe. Having that thin gusty tongue in the upper allowing runners to get a nice lockdown, but then nike, adding that sort of zone of padding down the center of the tongue, where the laces pull across the top of your foot. Really really nice touch and it’s created. A very fitted but plush feel around your midfoot. In fact, when you pair up that new dynamic fit system the redesigned laces and that gusseted tongue, the shoe really does offer a good level of lockdown. You feel very secure in the shoe. I’Ve had no lateral movement or slippage in this upper at all, even when i’ve been pushing in technical areas with nike moving the air zoom unit from the heel to under the forefoot it’s created a very nice or comfortable bouncy feel under that forefoot, especially if you’re Hitting tarmac sections getting to the trails or once you’re on the trails, they’re sort of dry and compact very comfortable under the forefoot i’ve said it before, say it time and time again: i’m.
A big fan of react, cushioning and again no difference in this shoe. It offers that nice, soft comfortable, but yet responsive, feel underfoot still not fully convinced react. Cushioning is the right cushioning level for a trail running shoe, especially if you’re running quickly in rocky technical areas. So the shoe has offered a really nice plush feel wrapped around my foot. Good levels of lockdown around the midfoot, with a nice roomy sort of airy, feel in the toe box of the shoe for my foot shape again. Another nike trail shoe that is handled running on the tarmac and the harder flatter trails exceptionally. Well, i could run a road marathon in this shoe and feel pretty good about it, but, and it is a big big butt. This is a trail running shoe it’s, designed to run on the trails we’re going to test it review it and score it as a trail running shoe – and i just want to read you a sentence from the nike website about the terracyga7 run the trail in the Nike air zoom, terra kyger7, fast lightweight the shoe, delivers a breathable secure, feel as you race over rocky paths, updated traction lugs, provide stability for your downhill miles so fast yep. The shoes felt pretty quick on tarmac or less technical flat. Dry trails: lightweight not really at 311 grams there’s much lighter weight, trail running shoes out there on the market, breathable. Definitely a breathable shoe. This upper’s felt nice and breathable wrapped around my foot, a nice airy feel and that upper as i’ve been out running in the shoe secure on rocky paths not really and the lugs provide stability.
Definitely not. Over the last few years, i’ve been on a bit of a mission to find a nike trail running shoe that can handle the tricky uk conditions and i had real high hopes for the terra kyger 7.. Unfortunately, i think my hopes have been dashed – and i mentioned earlier – that i didn’t quite make it to the 30 mile limit. We like to get uh testing in a shoe before we do a review on the channel, and the main reason that i didn’t get to that limit is because i just don’t feel safe running the trails that i run in this shoe, especially coming back from an Ankle sprain, so the shoe has just felt very unstable on uneven ground and i don’t mean super technical, rocky gnarly, aggressive trails. I just mean anything: that’s, not pan flat rock hard and dry um. The best way of describing it is it feels like the midsole is shaped like the hull of a boat, so it’s it’s, almost feels like you’ve got lots of sort of lateral rock in the midsole of the shoe and then you’re sitting on that bubble of air. From the air zoom unit, so it is really like you’re sort of running on a wobble board with a balloon under your foot and you’re, constantly fighting to keep a stable foot in that’s. Definitely not the feel. I want, from my trail running shoes, especially while i’m rehabbing an ankle, sprain and we’ve got ta mention the g word again grip.
Unfortunately, another nike trail running shoe. That has let me down in that department. I know. Nike have updated this outsole on the new version. Adding a bit more blown rubber across the midfoot and a more aggressive lug pattern, but i’ve got to say if this is an improvement, i’d dread to think what the previous version shoe was like when it came down to traction on the trails. I just really didn’t feel connected by this outsole at all on any of the trails that i ran in the shoe, and then you throw in a bit of the wet stuff and mud and this outsole really struggles. All i found in the mud was that this lug pattern would just get bunged up with mud and it couldn’t clear it and then you’d just lose all forms of traction and as far as this rubber compound on wet rock, i didn’t feel particularly safe there either. I really struggled to work out why nike can’t get stability and grip right in their trail running shoes, surely being based in oregon. They’Ve got some wicked trails to run on. You know rooted rocky technical, aggressive, wet trails that they could get out there and test and develop their products on so, unfortunately, my quest continues to find the perfect nike trail shoe for the tricky british trails that i run on, but we’ve reached that time of the Review when we got to get some points on the run for adventure board, so let’s start scoring nike’s new terra kyger7 let’s start with the price first but hold on to your hats, retailing at 125 pound in the uk.
I don’t think that’s a bad price for a very good looking and solid trail running shoe. Nike have used some really nice fabrics and materials in the construction, so at 125 for the terra kyger 7 we’re going to score it a 7 out of 10 for price right moving on to comfort and performance, and this is where the review is going to get Very interesting – and i apologize if there is any nike executives watching this review, but the terra geiger 7, like i said, has performed very well on them harder areas. So the tarmac i ran in the shoe or them very flat, compact dry trails. This shoe performs excellently in that environment. The react midsole the air zoom unit bounces along on that type of terrain, very comfortable, feels uh, very soft, very responsive, and then the upper has felt really plush as well nice and connected and dialed into that midfoot really comfortable. In the heel of the shoe, unfortunately, this is a trail running shoe and i know i keep saying that. But this has been fundamentally designed to run on the trails, so it should be able to handle trail running because of the lack of traction from the outsole. In the mud, because of that lack of instability on pretty much all the trails that i ran, the shoe on and the fact that i just didn’t feel safe, it felt dangerous to run in and i felt like. I was gon na sprain, my ankle at any minute.
Unfortunately, the terra kyger 7 is going to score a disappointing 3 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and performance and if i’m, honest it’s only scoring a 3 out of 10 because it felt very comfortable and plush around my foot. Last up is durability and i’ve always found the nike trail shoes to be pretty solid in construction, and this shoe is no exception. The terra kaiger uses some really nice materials and fabrics. We’Ve got lots of overlays and structure worked into that upper, so i think it’s going to hold up to the mile as well. The outsole is showing no signs of wear whatsoever with the miles we’ve put in the shoe. So when it comes down to durability, the shoe is going to score a well put together, 8 out of 10.. So tallying all those points up for nike’s, new terra kyger7 it’s, going to score a struggling for traction and struggling for stability 18 out of 30. when it comes down to the super subjective topic of looks. This is something that nike really know how to do. They’Ve been using some very bold, colorways and designs in their trail running products, and i think it works really well on the nike terra chiga, 7. it’s a great looking shoe. I love the colors they’ve used, so it’s definitely going to get a massive thumbs up from me when it comes down to looks when it comes down to comparisons for the terracyga7 it’s.
Quite a tricky thing to do, because i haven’t had many trail running shoes that have struggled on those more technical trails as much as this shoe. I think the best things we can compare it to are probably other nike trail running shoes, so the wild horse 7 or the pegasus trail 2, both of them shoes full react midsoles. They both run very well on tarmac sections or on them harder drier, flatter trails, but they also have the same traction issues and instability issues, but that’s enough of me, waffling on about this trail running shoe let’s wrap this review up with a quick conclusion. I know it seems, like i’ve, been very harsh on the new trail running shoe from nike, but i also get very frustrated with nike trail, because whenever i test and review one of their shoes, i’m hoping for better things – and it always seems to be the traction Issue and the instability issue, but there is a place for this trail running shoe. I understand not everybody. Who’S running trail is on technical coast paths, rocky areas, muddy areas and a lot of people are doing a bit of road mileage and crossing over to some sort of dry flat trails like fire, roads, tow paths, things like that, and this shoe actually does that type Of running pretty well very comfortable in a road environment and, like i said it will bounce along on them flatter drier trails with no problems.
But if you’re a trail runner like me and you spend a lot of time on uneven technical trails, whether it be coast paths, mountainous terrain, especially if you’re running a winter time in the wet areas and the muddy areas, then i would definitely recommend maybe looking elsewhere For your trail running shoes, there’s, definitely some better trail running shoes in the marketplace. That will do that job much better than the terra kyger7, but that is a wrap on another review at run. For adventure really hope you enjoyed it guys.
