Your phone for a total beginner user hi, everyone welcome to 50 plus tech, the new channel for people looking to learn the basics of the fabulous, but sometimes also overwhelming world of technology smartphone. What is it the easiest way to describe it? Well, it’s, a computer that fits in your pocket, it’s a phone – yes, i know it’s a phone, but it can do so much more. If used correctly, are you interested in learning more about it? Well, that’s the right place let’s dive in so maybe you had this as a gift from your grandchild or maybe, finally, after years of avoiding it, you decided finally to buy it to keep in touch with your beloved ones during this pandemic period. Whatever the reason is, let’s stick together and see how it works and what it can do for you. If used correctly, whatever brand model year, your new smartphone will have on one side the front side, a the screen, which is sensible to touch on the back side. Instead, you will find the casing, which can be made of plastic like this one or made of metal like this one. Then you will find usually on the top left side, a camera and his dedicated flash and on some models.
You can find also a round or square sensor like this one, which is a fingerprint sensor which allows you to unlock your phone with just the tip of your finger. Coming back on the front side, you will find on the top half, usually a camera, which is the video camera for the video calls and your speaker for the caller. Then you can find it a physical button like this one, the same button in some other models like this one, and this one can be integrated in the screen, and you will see it just when your phone is on on the sides. Instead, usually the right side, but it can be also on the left. Depending on the phone, you will find a double button, which is the volume plus and minus and a third button which is uh the power on power off button. On the other side, usually you find a slot covered which is used for inserting your sim card, the sim card, which is basically a microchip provided by your operator. That is basically connecting your phone to the 3g, 4g or 5g line with an identification number, which is your personal number, sometimes in the same slot, there’s also space for an additional chip that can expand your phone memory in order to add more space for your data’s Photos, etc, etc. On the bottom side, instead, usually, you can find an open slot this one that is used to recharge your phone with your dedicated charger, a speaker this one that is the speaker for reproducing music, the phone ringtones on and also during the video calls.
The other caller voice, then there is the microphone for transmitting the voice during the calls this one. Sometimes, you will find also here the slot for the headphones other times. Instead, the slot for the headphones will be found on the top side, like in this case and instead other times that slot won’t be simply there, because we are slowly moving to a wireless headphones world. Those are the main physical elements on your new smartphone. Obviously every phone is different. Here we are a bit generalizing. There are some phones that have a physical keyboard like the blackberry, other phones, which have infrared sensor like this one, which allows you to use your phone as a remote control for your tv and other phones. Like the Iphone that inside the newer ones, they have the face recognition, which is basically um a sensor that allows to detect your face and switch on like unlock your phone directly just looking at it, etc, etc. There are a lot of different phones, a lot of different features. Now once explained, the main physical feature of your new smartphone let’s get back to the fact that your new smartphone is not only a phone it’s, a small computer and as all the computer, they need an operative system os in order to function. There are two major systems nowadays: android and iOS. The iphone system there’s also a third one, which is windows phone since iphone and android have more than 95 percent of the market share.
For this series we won’t take in consideration windows phone. So if you have an iphone, you have ios. If you instead have any other phone with high degree of probability, you will have installed on your phone android, but if you’re still unsure about it, just ask to one of your relatives to check your smartphone for you.
