Today, though, we have the poco f3, this has the snapdragon 870 chip. So already you know you’re going to get really good performance from this. Now i was lucky and i actually got this very special box here for the poco f3 and whoever thought up the unboxing experience for this. Well, they had a lot of fun. So, on the front of the box, it says the real beast is here: do you have the power to unleash it and when you open the box well, as you can see, there’s a padlock now for a minute, i thought about just ripping this off, but that Would be cheating so the challenge was on and i had to figure out the code and then i realized the claw marks on the box from the beast. I’M guessing had numbers in them on the front and the back, and so i had all the numbers i needed. I just had to figure out the order, and once the padlock was off, though i finally made it to the phone and in the box, is a card with some information about poco. You get a usb type c to 3.5 millimeter headphone adapter, some more paperwork and a clear tpu case, so that’s cool also in the box, is a 33 watt power adapter and also the charging cable. Now. The first thing i thought to myself was wow. This looks and feels really good, and then i noticed how reflective the back of this is is almost like a mirror, so the poco f3 is kind of like a flagship handset, but just with some of the features dialed back slightly in the uk, 329 pounds will Get you the six gig of ram and 128 gig of storage option and just for a little bit more at 349 pounds you’re gon na get eight gig of ram and 256 gig of storage and that’s the one i have right here.
It comes in three different colors, i have night black, but you can also get it in deep ocean, blue and also arctic white. I think all of them look pretty good. The only thing i will say, though, is like i mentioned before the back of this is pretty much a mirror, so it’s running me, ui 12, which is modified slightly for this phone. For example, the app drawer can’t be turned off. I do normally turn it off with other handsets, but with the poco f3 i can’t and the icons are this circular shape which again that’s not really my style, but you could install another icon pack and a different launcher as well, if you really wanted to so After using this for about two weeks, i think the areas that this handset does really well are with the display and, of course, the performance. Obviously it does have a camera which we are going to talk about in a moment, but just going back to the display. So it’s amoled full hd, plus 120 hertz and it’s 6.67 inches. So you get a good size screen and it’s very clear, really excellent for the kind of money you’re spending on this phone now, like all other handsets that, have a 120 hertz display. It will eat away at the battery faster, so you’ll probably end up setting that at 60 hertz. But the fact that you have the option to set it at 120 is great.
So then, as well as that display is the performance and with a snapdragon, 870 chip. You already know it’s going to be good and it’s just a small step down from the snapdragon 888, which is found in xiaomi’s me, 11 handsets, for example, so the best way to really look at the performance, then i think, is to play some games. So i did and i played pub g – i played fortnite real racing 3 shadow gun legends and also more simple stuff, like super mario run, all of those things and with other handsets around this price, and maybe some that are a little bit less expensive as well. It’S annoying when you can literally see a handset struggling to run stuff like this, but the poco f3 just gives you great performance all round. The same applies to miui. That does run very well. There are a few bugs, i think at the moment, which hopefully will get ironed out. I’Ve noticed the display has turned itself off while i’m using whatsapp a few times it’s, almost as if the proximity sensor has kicked in, but it’s done it while i’m holding the phone right in front of me. So no big deal it’s only done it a few times and i’m quite confident that we’ll be sorting out with a future software update. But in terms of how smoothly miui actually runs, it’s all good, so it’s all geared towards performance with the poco f3.
But if this is your only handset or maybe it’s, your main handset you’re still going to need a camera and of course it has one and it’s really not bad. So you do still get a 48 megapixel main camera 8 megapixel ultra wide and the 5 megapixel tele macro. All of these take fairly decent pictures. You get all the features you would expect, such as ai and hdr there’s a night mode 2.0 for low light shots. Lots of other features too the size of the sensor on these cameras and the lenses, obviously all make a big difference. So when you put the photos, you’ve taken on the poco side by side with a more expensive handset, then yeah sure you’re going to notice the difference but taking everything else away and just judging the photos from the poco in their own right. I honestly don’t think they’re that bad at all Music, it shoots video up to 4k at 30 frames per second, and this is usable video. The quality of this video is decent and for normal, everyday video. This really is good enough again, when you take into account how much this costs you get dual speakers, which is good. There are still some handsets out there that only have one speaker. I don’t know why two speakers is a must, i think now. For me, the top speaker, i believe, is shared with the earpiece and you seem to get slightly less bass from that speaker at the top, but i don’t think you really notice that when you’re using it, it is always a bit difficult to hear exactly how speakers Really sound but here’s a quick example: Music, Music! Oh so this has a 4520 milliamp hour battery, not as big as some phones, but i think, probably it’s big enough.
Now. The thing is: if the phone is in your pocket or if it’s in your bag and you’re not really using it much then yeah sure you’re going to get seven hours, maybe more than that. But on the days where you’re gaming, a lot and you’re watching a lot of video content and scrolling through social media and that screen is on then you’re definitely going to get less time and i’d say about six hours. To be honest, though, you can fully charge this in less than an hour because of that 33 watt fast charging. So is it really a big deal? No, i don’t think so. The other thing i wanted to mention was build quality, it’s, really good. You get a glass front, a glass back, a plastic frame sandwiched in the middle when you’re holding it. The grip is good it’s comfortable to hold. The only issue, i would say, is fingerprints. Now that’s fine. If you work in the forensic department at the local police station, but apart from that you’re gon na have to polish the back of this literally every five minutes, either that or definitely put a case on it, it weighs just under 200 grams, so it’s not really That heavy it’s actually kind of what i was expecting. Obviously it’s got some weight to it, but it’s just not as heavy as some other handsets kind of just in the middle, so that’s the poco f3. It has the power you need for gaming.
A very nice display to go with it and you still get all of the other features you need, like stereo speakers, nfc for contactless payments, fast charging, decent camera. It does everything you need it to honestly. It does but where a lot of phones struggle with performance, especially while gaming, that is where the poco f3 really stands out.
