Let me explain so starting off with the design. The iphone 11 has a 6.1 inch edge to edge lcd display and for a lot of people. This seems to be the perfect size. Personally, i don’t love it, but i don’t hate it as well. It’S also an lcd display, meaning it doesn’t, have as much contrast and isn’t as color accurate as an oled display, and this display got off backfire when it was released because it was really low resolution. It isn’t even 1080p, but in my opinion this is definitely a good lcd display i’ve compared it to the oled display on the iphone 12 pro max and it holds up pretty well it’s also edge to edge. So it fills up the whole screen, except that infamous notch which houses the face id, which is faster and has more angles than the previous iphone 10s. This phone is also rated ip68 water resistant, so 2 meters depth up to 30 minutes, which is really great when you’re taking photos and videos in heavy rain and to finish it off, it’s got aluminium sides and a glossy glass back. So in terms of design, this phone feels good in the hand it’s not too heavy, and the display is also good. Now let’s move on to the performance. Now this phone is really fast. It has four gigs of ram and an a13 bionic processor and combining those with ios, which is really well optimized. This thing is a powerhouse navigating through the home screen is a breeze, editing and lumafusion lightroom, wherever it stays fast and smooth, and that is a massive plus because, as a filmmaker and photographer being able to edit on the go fast and smoothly.
That is great. However, as creatives, we also need that device to last long, so we can do more without being interrupted as much especially on the go and this phone doesn’t fall short in battery as well. It has a 3 110 milliamp hour battery and in 2021, with phones that go up to 5 000 million power. It doesn’t seem that impressive right, but it still is combining that battery and ios, which is really well optimized, and the a13 bionic processor in this phone, which is really efficient, you’ve got yourself a phone that will last you hours, if not a day. So, in terms of performance, this thing is a powerhouse but at the same time, it’s, efficient and reliable, which is great for mobile filmmakers. Editors photographers now, let’s talk about the cameras, so the iphone 11 has a dual camera setup on the back. A standard 26 millimeter lens and an ultra rider 13 millimeter lens, and it also has a 23 millimeter lens on the front, which was never good on previous iphones, but apple definitely improved it with this one, and all of these cameras back and front are 12 megapixels. So, starting off with a standard 26 millimeter lens, it’s, f, 1.8, so it performs good in low light situations, and you also get that shallower depth of field. It also has optical image stabilization, meaning it has a physical mechanical form of stabilization in the lens, and it works great it’s more than enough to stabilize those gears and bumps when recording a video or taking a fall.
This stabilization also plays a big part in stabilizing the night mode photos which also look really good, they’re, often really well color balanced, not too green, not too purple. Also, night mode is only available on the main standard camera, not on the ultra ride and not on the front. However, the main camera and the front camera are both capable of portrait mode with objects and people, and they look good edges. Aren’T always accurate, obviously, but they look good in general in portrait mode. You also have the option to play around with the aperture and the depth effects, either in real time or after you’ve taken the photo and not to mention you also have more smart computational photography features such as deep fusion, which fuses multiple images to get the best Image and smart hdr, which i made a whole video on, so if you want to check that out, it’s either there or there. I still haven’t gotten used to this on my days and that’s. Basically, when it uses smart features to form videos and photos with a lot of dynamic range, and you can definitely notice it and it’s really useful for us, oh and by the way, deep. Fusion is only available on the main camera, not on the ultra head and not on the front. However, smart hdr is available on every single camera. Now, moving on to the ultra red camera, it’s 13 millimeters, it has a field of view of 120 degrees and it has an aperture of f 2.
4 and, to be honest, i like it, you can get really creative because of how ultra wide it gets, and you Can fit more into the frame, but unfortunately it isn’t really sharp and it isn’t really great in low light situations it can get grainy really quickly because of how high that aperture is the ultra red lens. Also doesn’t have optical image stabilization. Instead, it uses eis electronic image stabilization, which is all digital, and you know it’s, okay, but sometimes you cannotice it now navigating to the front camera now. This was really clearly improved. It has a wider field of view of 23. Millimeters is 12 megapixels and it’s f. 2.2 – and it also has extra things like smart hdr again, this doesn’t have optical image stabilization. Instead, it uses electronic image stabilization. Now, moving on to the video side of things now, this has been one of iphone’s biggest strengths in the camera department and that’s, because their videos are always consistent, not overdone and high quality. At the same time, and this phone gets even better, you can shoot 4k up to 60 frames per second on every single camera, including the front camera like what and on every single one of them. You get extended dynamic range 4k up to 30 on the front. Camera 4k up to 60 on the two back cameras extended dynamic range and the 4k output on these cameras are really good. It’S, not over saturated it’s, well exposed and sharp.
All the cameras also have slow motion capabilities. You can shoot 1080p up to 240 frames per second on the two back cameras and you can shoot 1080p up to 120 on the front camera which i haven’t found a useful. But you know it’s nice to have it and the dynamic range when recording video is amazing thanks to smarthdr and that is it now i’m not trying to sell you this phone. But when you look at the iphone 11 under 500, pound it’s, consistent, reliable, smooth and fast throughout whether you’re, editing in lumafusion, taking photos or videos in the rain or just navigating through the home screen, it’s smooth and fast and it’s, high quality and reliable. And because of that, from a filmmaker’s perspective, the iphone 11 might just be the best value smartphone for mobile photographers filmmakers, video editors in 2021, and maybe just maybe the best value smartphone under 500 pound in 2021. Thank you.
