When is the legion 5 pro review? When is the legion 5 pro review? Well guess what it’s here and i’m glad i finally got this thing, because when lenovo announced this back at ces 2021, i was excited because this was a gaming laptop with a qhd display that was 16×10 like this is the way it should be, especially if you’re Someone who’s using this for more than just gaming. You know, like i, edit video you might edit video. You might just do some sort of design or photography work having that extra vertical space. Having that color accurate screen having that pixel density is a must and the fact that you get to do it on a laptop that lets you game two with a high refresh rate, that’s huge, and they were able to do this by keeping it in a package. That’S very familiar like if you were to take the legion 5 pro, which i don’t have here. I have the 7, which is pretty much the same size. The body is almost the same. You know like this is a 16 inch. Laptop legion is 15 inches and they were able to keep the chassis sizes very similar. Of course, this is a bit deeper because it has that 16 by 10 display, but overall, very impressive. The second thing is the weight it’s 5.5 pounds, which is also the same as the legion 5, the regular legion 5 – that a lot of you are used to now.
You do have a bit of a different design on the lid. It looks like they went back in history a bit and used their older designs with that typical y shape, but it’s clean. You know nothing crazy, going on just a gray metal chassis with the y in the middle. Now you guys know how i love lenovo’s port setups. They keep most of it on the back. So if you have this thing on your table, it’s going to be nice and clean rj45, usb type c, two usb ports hdmi another usb port, and then you have your power connector and then, on the right hand, side you have another usb type c port. Your audio jack and then on the left hand side. Another usb port, like this thing just has a ton of i o hello, again, it’s that’s grandmama olga. I have a new hat, please like and subscribe to matt. Now there is one thing: the power brick that comes with this is huge 300 watts, one of the biggest power bricks that i’ve had to carry with a laptop for a very long time. To give you guys some context. This is the power brick that comes with the legion seven that i have over here. This is 230 watts and it’s literally half the size. So, even though this laptop is 5.5 pounds, this is gon na add some extra weight, so i don’t know how you guys feel about carrying something like this in your bag all the time now, the keyboard is exactly what you’d expect from lenovo? U shape keys super tactile, very reminiscent of what you’d get on a thinkpad but made for gaming.
You even get that numpad on the side, if you’re some sort of crazy number warrior, but the sticker guy man holy like these are. These are some pretty crooked stickers. It’S, like he was playing tic tac toe and then forgot to clean up the mess you can customize the lighting on these keys, there’s four zones of rgb, but if you’re looking for per key, you got ta buy the seven because that’s not offered on the five Touch pad huge but it’s, not as good as the touch pad on the thinkpads it’s. Okay, it’ll get you through the day, but if you’re gaming you’re, obviously using a mouse – and this probably doesn’t matter to you now, can we just take a second and appreciate these bezels like look how thin these things are come on? This looks great, especially when you compare it to the seven from the previous year: those bottom bezels, you know they’re pretty chunky, they’re thin on the top and the sides, but you have thinness all around on the five pro and i think that looks awesome, but thinness And bezels aside, you’re buying this, for the display, like this 16 inch display, is absolutely gorgeous. It’S matte, so you don’t get that crazy reflection. The text looks nice and crisp. The color accuracy is fantastic, the gamut is great and the screen is super bright. It’S like made for gaming and for content creation, especially considering that this thing is 165 hertz, which i think is the sweet spot for 1080p and qhd gaming on a laptop.
And this is the 720p webcam. And this is probably the exact same webcam they’ve been using for the past 450 years, but hey at least it has one. Now. This unit is a ryzen 7 5800h with 16 gigabytes of ram and an rtx 3070 that can boost up to 130 watts but here’s. The thing this is technically not a qhd gaming, laptop it’s, more like qhd plus, so it has to push more pixels than the standard qhd laptop just because those displays are usually 16×9 and yeah it’s, not always going to get 165 frames per second to match. The high refresh rate of this thing, but you can still game comfortably at that higher resolution. If you want those higher fps counts, then you got to drop it down to 1920 by 1200, then you’re gon na get closer and closer to 165, or even above. If you’re playing an older title, the other thing is content creation like if you’re, using the adobe suite and you’re using adobe premiere pro. This thing is an absolute monster like you get to edit on this and then have an awesome gaming experience and that’s. What a lot of people want in a gaming laptop too, they don’t just want it to be a gaming laptop. They want to use it for everything else, even if you’re some sort of developer, whether you’re developing an ai which leans on the gpu a bit more or you’re just doing regular code, which requires the cpu it’s going to crush it like this ryzen cpu is absolutely Awesome but as usual, not every laptop is perfect, and the main issue that i ran into this is that it can get a bit hot.
You know like sometimes i saw the cpu go up to 100 degrees, but it does power throttle. So it gets a little bit cooler around 89 to 90., but the deck of the keyboard just below the p and beside the l can get kind of hot. Thankfully, most people don’t use those keys when they game. But if you do just keep that in mind and of course, this being a gaming laptop, it gets super duper loud like when this thing is on performance mode, which you can switch by tapping function. Q. It gets around 55 to 57 decibels now internally. The standard stuff is upgradable, ram up to 64 gigabytes two slots for drives this one is populated, gets really good, read and write speeds. They have a second nvme ssd slot. If you want to expand in the future, heat pipes and fans are nice and chunky to keep the cpu and gpu as cool as possible, and you have a big 80 watt hour battery. Now this is a gaming laptop. You got to put it on hybrid mode, which means you’ll, take a nerf in performance if it’s plugged in, but if it’s on the battery you’ll get okay battery life like four, maybe four and a half hours of use, if you’re lucky, which is better than the Two or three that you’d get on most so here’s the thing i absolutely love this 16 by 10 gaming category and – and i know the g15 has been out for a while from asus – and i know that got rave reviews and that’s, probably the one to compare To this, but i haven’t reviewed it or used it yet, and a couple people on my discord server, who got it already had some qc issues, just like i did when i reviewed the g14, but right now today, as this being the only 16×10 gaming laptop that I’Ve had in the studio i love this category and the legion 5 pro is an absolute go in my books.
